*Official* English Football Season 2022/23

Tangles

International Vice-Captain
The spin is Utd have been looking at him for a while and its not a panic move, even if you somehow give them the benefit of the doubt why not sign him earlier,,,not like their was a bidding war for him and obviously similar with Arnutovic.

I suspect they are praying Garnacho and to a lesser extent Garner can make a serious difference this season.
A quality forward and midfielder make sense. When that becomes taking a punt on guys to pad out the squad I question it. Having good young players and knowing how to develop them are different things. Hopefully ETH can help with this but not if you load the squad back up with average players.

Gabriel Jesus is not like the others either lol.

Arsenal fans have talked themselves into him sooo hard. If you polled PL fans "Is Gabriel Jesus average?" two months ago it would be 100% yes 0% no. TBH I thought I rated him much higher than most. Apparently now this Shane Long regen who repeatedly churned out 7 and 8 goal seasons playing in front of De Bruyne and various Silvas is gonna transform the club.
Serious question but would you be happier if United signed Jesus or Sterling?

Not sure, Sterling is better but Jesus would fill much more of a need, assuming Ronaldo leaves.

I don’t think either are terrible signings but City are doing well out of both deals. I don’t see many attackers leaving City and looking better at a worse club. It’s so much easier for a top team. Attackers moving down in the same division tend to range from useful to total bombs. I can’t think of any big successes, unless I’m forgetting someone?

Though Jesus has been a historically terrible finisher so far. So if that reverts you’re in business.

But there are a plethora of reasons for that. We aren’t as good as City, the sub-impact factor - it’s easier to look great coming on fresh against tired legs than it is to be a starter.

But none of those are actually reflective of Jesus’s quality. They’re circumstantial and a worse player would have even more of a drop off.

I think even allowing for the above, I think I’d find it hard to seriously argue that Sterling would be the better choice.

Jesus isn’t Kane/Salah/Haaland but he’s not far away from most of the blokes who aren’t those guys.

Just feels odd you’re on the side of the fence that’s talking down Jesus when a young, highly technical and versatile attacker with great underlying shot numbers who can finish with right, left and his head seems like he should be an Uppercut wet dream

I swear you usually preach that the fallacy of a player missing chances is less indicative of their quality than the number of chances they find themselves with?

Yeah haha my post was sincere. I’m only just noticing it sounds sarcastic.

Can I just say, five subs sucks. I hated it when we had it in 20-21, I hated it in the Euros and I hate it now.

I like it from a player's point of view...but there's no doubt it's a terrible rule for leagues like the Scottish Premiership.

I'd be far happier if subs 4 and 5 for us had to be club trained players under the age of 21.

Injury prevention is obviously good but it benefits the biggest clubs so much. They should have combined it with other changes to offset the effect on competitive balance. Tweak the TV money formula or whatever.
