I’m fine with pushing hard for De Jong but we should have started working on a backup plan weeks ago. At a certain point if it was going to happen it would have happened already. Also we badly underestimate how important it is to get the key players in before pre-season.

United being able to do more than 1 transfer at once is an improvement. Erickson is a good player but where he plays given the existing midfield options will be interesting. Martinez looks good but Malacia looks like a backup without a LB being sold.

Spending so much time and effort on De Jong who clearly doesn’t want to leave Barca looks like a mistake.

They seem like decent signings, but ultimately if one of God forbid both McFred are first teamers next season then its irrelevant if they sign Mbappe sadly.

Like it was supposed to be irrelevant when they signed CR7?

Ha that's a fair point, Ole loved them though especially Scotty as he had loads of PASHION and was Scottish like Darren Fletcher.

He wasn't the shrewdest Ole was he?:p

Still haven't signed anyone, I'm perversely hoping we don't sign anyone at all now.

Bloody hell. If your forum/twitter fanbase are anything like ours they must be in full on meltdown
It is a bit, but we've come off a Promotion, and not sold anyone, but yeah, the usual suspects are hysterical. Plenty of time for Loan signings after the season starts. We need 3 quality editions, no point making up numbers. If we are Loaning them and they're any good they're still with their parent club.

The season starting on 30th July skews things a bit too. A lot of out of contract players sign on 1st August as they’re entitled to half a month’s wages from their old club if still unsigned by the end of July.

?

Anyway, I see Tuchel is doing his 'fall out with his players' routine that worked so brilliantly for him at Dortmund, PSG and Mainz so a wee flutter on him being sacked seems like it's just free money.

Can you imagine Jesse Marsch finishing the season as Chelsea manager?

Oh dear Talkshite leading with poor Little Forest Green fighting against the big Boys, somewhat ignoring Dale Vince's millions he pored into the club. I've no problem with that or his green thing, but let's lay off the "underdog" story please.

According to Vince, they weren’t in the top eight budgets last season. They definitely bought their way out of the conference but in fairness (to FGR ) they didn’t have big stars last season, they installed a good football setup and it paid off.

Not to contradict grecian btw, and we’ve there’s no love lost between TRFC and FGR but I think they are probably a better example of how to use money to get a project going and build something than the likes of Salford and Crawley.

As I say I don't mind them, but there's so little light shone on lower Leagues, that when the media get a new obsession it can get annoying. I mean when it was looking like we'd pip them last season, some on Sky said they were going to be the real winners anyway, as they'd slavishly followed them. As it was they were the winners, so guess they were right.

We will see, but it means things if they get televised games, and the cash involved, and we don't. Same as Salford. Gonna be tough enough being in a division with Wednesday, Derby and the like, mind you we will get bigger crowds from them, but not much from Forest Green.

Yeah agree entirely. And on the TV front, maybe they’ve done their research but it seems really wasteful to me. Talking about League 2 for example, you’re going to get more viewers if you show Bradford, Tranmere, you guys last season etc than Salford, especially away games for those sides, because they have fanbases that will tune in. Surely Man U fans don’t watch Salford games on TV just because Gary Neville is the owner? Maybe I’m wrong. @Uppercut might have a view.

As a case in point, when we were in the conference BT showed us more than others because they knew it would translate to viewers. But we weren’t in there with Salford so what do I know

Salford have the 'isn't that Neville's project?' point of curiosity that might tempt me to give them a watch on an international week.

Don’t bother, they’re shite.

But yeah I wonder if this actually happens. It must be their logic.
