Norwood's on Fire
It feels for me like the biggest tasks for Stokes and McCullum are getting the openers right and getting an attack in place that is effective without having a hideous tail.

If Anderson was playing this match then conceivably we’d have been chasing down a lower first innings score but Bairstow could quite feasibly have run out of partners before he got close to a ton.

Sam curran is in some other-worldly form with the bat atm and we know his bowling is passable in english conditions. Maybe just say **** it and bring him or woakes back at 8.

People bagging Bracewells selection but he hasn't bowled all that badly. Even his batting must be a TM directive.
Yeah, it's not bagging him. Well for me, it isn't. The guy is an OK bowler. But he's averaged 44 with the ball and 24 with the bat - exactly what his FC numbers suggested he would. In what world is that going to help us win Test matches?

The only way he should be in this side is if he earns his spot with either discipline. In 2021-22 Plunket Shield he averaged 19 with the bat and 57 with the ball. He's actually overperformed in this series. And what the hell has been the idea with his approach to batting? First innings here, he looked all at sea for 45 balls then was exposed technically...only to decide to slog in this innings, batting with an established in-form player and 3 bunnies to come. Did exactly the same at Nottingham in the 2nd dig.

Meanwhile, a specialist spinner takes 10-for and 14-for in a Test, then has the luxury of bowling 2 more overs in the next six months at Test level. And watches on as the opposition left-arm spinner takes 13 wickets in the series, a 10-wicket bag here and has the full backing of his coach and captain. Who might I add, give no ****s about how many runs he scores - they leave that up to the people whose job it actually is.

The selections and general coaching/management in this series has been some of the worst in living memory.

Bracewell is going at nearly 7 an over in a test match where the opposition spinner has 10 for the match at a good econ, he's bowling tripe.

Bracewell is visibly not bowling anywhere close to as bad as his figures suggest (just as i say this he’s bowled a full toss) but Root in particular has been very aggressive against him. When Root these days gets in a mood you just can’t do much to stop him.

I sincerely doubt Ajaz would’ve done much better here but I agree he deserved a chance.

Curran's barely bowling at present though. He's not even bowled in all of Surrey's T20 matches that he's played. And Woakes isn't playing in the Warwickshire CC match that started today.

There's so much in the pitch, it's turning, it's holding, there's lots of rough and Bracewell is able to hit once in a while. Although I'm not a fan of his selection happy to back it but he hasn't done any favors to himself or the team at least so far.

Of course they're going to reverse sweep, obvious shot considering if you get hit outside the line you're not going to be out. You're not expecting them to drive through off from there. That's where the control from an experienced bowler comes. To beat the batters in the air which he doesn't have that.

Our faster bowlers aren't doing any good either leaking lots from the other end. It puts even more pressure on him.

Bracewell bowling with 7-2 leg side field ?

Around the wicket when you have all the rough outside the off with two of our bowlers left handed creating so much rough on a dry surface.

I'm sure that's coming from Kane. He's probably trying to use him to keep the runs down rather than grab wickets. That is such a bad ploy and commentators are saying it's good to see them trying something different ?‍♂

Curran has been playing a specialist bat. He's not been able to bowl for some injury I can't remember.
