His best period came against you in those three games earlier this season... but overall he has had two poor seasons now.

I compare him to Badenhorst who effectively always scores something hardly ever fails and tends to come good in big games. At first I thought it was because Bert had such a better SS, but over time that has not proved to be the case, then I thought it might be because Davidsons defence was still below 10. I actively increased that and it has still not helped. I thought it might be an experience thing but he has more than Bert. I have played him in all sorts of roles (swapped him with Bert frequently) and wherever either has batted, Davidson has done poorly and Bert has done well...

Having trained him to be my best skilled batsmen (along with Kock) the fact I can never rely on him to score runs is very disappointing. A lot of time and effort has effectively been put into an apparently skilled but dud batsmen.

It's pretty much a fact I think on Stumped that a low-experience aggressive bat performs worse than they *should*. I think this has happened with other players like Ed Halliday; experience plays a massive role in success in the lower order.

From a cursory look, it seems like your batting lineup suffers a similar defect to mine: too many high SS players, which can lead to frustrating blockathons; they just can't go through with their shots. So potentially, you could get in some experienced basher à la Branning to spice up that lineup?

Anthony Davidson is Erratic. 11 touch atm but I'm sure there must have been passages in his career where it's dropped and that will hurt.

9 experience is dreadfully low for senior cricket too tbh. I don't expect any degree of consistency from my players till they get around 12/13 exp. Especially when you've burdened the kid with the pressures of captaincy as well!

I have found the Erratic trait trends upwards overall... he has dropped as low as 7/8 but not for very long and spent most of last season above 12 hitting 18 at end of season. I have batted him everything from 5 to 7 aggression. He started off as a defensive player but training his aggression took him to steady player. Because of his relatively high stamina my plan was for him to bat 3 on a slightly aggressive 6. Today I left him on a neutral 5, just to give him a chance to settle...

I expect much less from him in senior cricket there I have Kock and Thundayal as the main team bats. The whole team would be an absolute failure if Levy was not so consistently good.

Ncanana, plays the experienced basher role in the senior cricket and Coetzee is coming along nicely. Kock is surprisingly aggressive and does a pretty good job. In the senior cricket side as frustrating as Davidson lack of performance is, its not the be all and end all, enough other experienced quality that allows the team to compete well. But the loss of Kock in the development side has really hit hard with Davidsons lack of performance.

All my top potential skilled batsmen are home grown, I could not have afforded them otherwise, I`m reluctant to spend money at the moment and truthfully I`m very not bothered about the T20 style aggressive batsmen... maybe next season when I`m back in div 2 (cross fingers!); and maybe one day I will try build a more aggressive team regarding that nut not yet.

So the ZCC vs FHK series ends at 3 matches apiece!

FHK won the toss in Game 5, and as the trend has been in this series, went on to win the match. They opted to bowl first and shot ZCC out for just 157 on another worn deck. Wickets were shared, with 3 runouts in ZCC's top 6! Samra top scored with 34 for the hosts. In reply, FHK cruised to 117/2, before a late wobble saw them have to dig deep and grind out a 5 wicket win in the 42nd over. Tony Chung excellent as usual with 58*

ZCC needed a win in the final match to level the series, but lost the toss and were sent in to bat first on an even more worn out deck. Run scoring was hard work, but fifties from Shahbaz and Raun, followed by a quick 39 from Samra, saw them post 173/8 in their 50 overs. This proved to be plenty, as Chung Yiu and Ghous Ghani wrecked havoc on the FHK batting. Agnes Chow was the first to fall, runout, after which Chung and Ghous combined for 7/36 in 13.4 overs between them. FHK all out for 94, and the series leveled at 3 wins a piece!

Might need to work out the NRRs to determine the 'real' winners here, tho tempted to give the nod to ZCC for being the only side to win after losing the toss.

Thanks Stephen! Come to think of it, Rusty the batter's actually a pretty nice example of that point. When he started, he was a good opener who'd chip in with his somewhat pacy 50s at regular intervals. However, around September/October last year, he had this horror run - he hadn't kept up with the team's general rise. This eventuated in his dropping from the SOD team, and reinvention of more of a specialist hitter in T20s.

Now, his experience is still fairly low (14), but he's got good recently. With a minor exodus of senior players, Rusty's just now got back into AXI's 1st SOD XI - this time, batting at 7. I was thinking about that mad SOD win last night, and his knock of 39* (23) really was pivotal. Against 78K death bowling! He may well have bought himself a few more seasons in the side past 21.

So FHK are going to play a U22 lineup. This means Ted Hui (13) captaining instead of Tin Yau (19), Jamal Madani (13) keeping instead of Tony Chung (17), and our 4 oldest players with a combined exp of 77 being left out. Overall in terms of batting, bowling and fielding primary this is still a strong side, but I think these few key differences might have a fairly big impact on their performance. Interested to see what ratings they put up and how they perform.

Oh, and 7/11 players are under 10 touch too haha.

CWC5 Group A wrap up after Round 7:



ZCC take top spot in CWC5A after a tense back and forth match vs the Ashgrove Astronauts! Both teams were unbeaten heading into this clash, and a brilliant 57* from Shahbaz Furqan saw the hosts get over the line in a low scoring thriller at the DDMG. Meanwhile, Dynamo Morpork pulled off an equally stunning chase, gunning down 211 with 7 balls to spare at The Wild Geese CG! AXW pulled themselves off the bottom of the table with a dominant win against TNT, while JCC consolidated their position with an emphatic win over the Pirates. Honest Hunks with the 'bye' round.

ZCC the only unbeaten team left, but the Astronauts are just 2 points behind - they have remarkably taken the bonus point out of every game so far! @Charlie B 's two teams are neck and neck, TBI with a significant NRR advantage, while Dynamo Morpork have recovered from a poor start and sit just 2 points behind them in 5th. @honestbharani 's Hunks holding their own at 6th, with the three young affiliates rounding off the bottom of the table - the Pirates still searching for their first ever CWC victory.

With 10 rounds left to play there is plenty of movement possible in the table. ZCC and the Astronauts just starting to pull away from the pack, with TBI, JCC and Morpork all in the hunt for that 3rd place spot, which would get them into an Eliminator match for the Cup Final. AXW's win this round puts them within a point of the Hunks. If they overtake them they'll have a crack at the Plate Final. Meanwhile the Pirates and Theorists are on track to be playing for the Spoon, but will be hoping to claim a scalp or two on their way there.

I was going to do an update for Group B but something else came up. I'll have a crack at it later, or maybe @JOJOXI can tackle it when free.

Thank you for all friendly acceptance from everybody. @ataraxia I`ve sent an extra friendly request for Sunday to create a double header that day!

I have set up my most senior team and team orders, team I am most likely to play in important games... I will not be changing it for any of the friendly games regardless. I am just trying to get a largish sample size to look at individual players and their performance in the positions against good opposition. All very 'scientific' .
