I said it as a joke but I agree with you.Managed to dig up one name in 30 years? Proves my point of the team having a "largely" conservative approach.

Forget about Ponting. Lara and Tendulkar didn't have great batting lineups for much of their early careers which didn't stop them from being attacking.Steve Waugh was almost entirely before my time, but having watched a helluva lot of Ponting and Kallis, they were both gun batsmen, who did what their teams needed them to do.
Those who think that Kallis had roughly similar circumstances to attack in as Ponting don't have the slightest bit of clue how dominating of positions that Australia would get themselves into in Tests. The Australian test side was a major outlier at that time, when it came to approach compared to almost any Test team.
People talk about bowling "attacks", but the Australian test team of the era had a "batting attack", because of how quickly they would inundate you with the sheer pressure and weight of runs. Matthew Hayden I think was an underrated aspect of that approach, in taking advantage of even the slightest opportunity to go on the attack with fast scoring batting for an opener.
So that would make Lara and Tendulkar even more awesome. But doesn't really play into a Ponting vs Kallis discussion, I would think.Forget about Ponting. Lara and Tendulkar didn't have great batting lineups for much of their early careers which didn't stop them from being attacking.
and if you somehow got five wickets, here's Adam GilchristMatthew Hayden I think was an underrated aspect of that approach, in taking advantage of even the slightest opportunity to go on the attack with fast scoring batting for an opener.
People also greatly underestimate how much Ponting contributed to that himself. Those who think that Kallis had roughly similar circumstances to attack in as Ponting don't have the slightest bit of clue how dominating of positions that Australia would get themselves into in Tests. He was a stud, no doubt, but a diamond in a sea of jewels. It took some of the pressure off of him, but honestly I have a ton of respect for his batting.People also greatly underestimate how much Ponting contributed to that himself.
@robelindaI think I figured out the source of the Kallis disrespect. You all have just been getting all your info from the "fair and balanced" source that is robelinda highlight videos.
People focus on whatever stat serves their agendaWhich means Waugh's average must be higher than Kallis' in another innings, right?
I guess the question is, so what? 4th innings average is a kind of weird stat people focus on imo, but each to their own I suppose.
Truth. Why do you think I didn't post 4th innings averages in Ponting vs. Kallis thread?People focus on whatever stat serves their agenda
Kallis: 56.80, 53.07, 65.26, 41.62Which means Waugh's average must be higher than Kallis' in another innings, right?
Could we separate that out for home and away for Kallis... purely for interest and I`m to lazy!Kallis: 56.80, 53.07, 65.26, 41.62
Waugh: 62.24, 58.77, 35.83, 25.54
Tbf if you make enough first dig, you can play for shits and giggles in the second, if required.Damn first-innings basher; hardly an ATG if he averages 30 in second-innings.
