Also Englands competition are going to love those openers. With a couple of exceptions like Michael Bevan, I have zero faith in white ball players who can't succeed in tests when it comes to the big boy stages of an ODI world cup. They're always very limited players and get ruthlessly exposed.

Marcus Trescothick strolls into that team. He's England's best ever ODI opener and it isn't close. Also your batting order is a bit weird and I've just noticed you've included Rashid and Plunket, which is insane.

A properly selected English side is an excellent team, even if it is from Queensland.

Trescothick
Bairstow
Root
KP
Stokes
Morgan
Buttler (wk)
Flintoff
Swann
Archer

Bowling too light on firepower. Needs more Willis.

KP was so so bad at ODI cricket for large parts of his career.

Flintoff also only made runs in ODI cricket in the top 5 but I don't see how I get it him that high up the order with the other fire power England have. He is an absolutely elite quick tho, especially at the death so I'd squeeze him in at 7.

Roy has to play. He was superb in the 2019 world cup and England looked a decidedly less intimidating team when he missed a few games through injuries. He absolutely monstered Starc in the semi final and turned a potentially tricky chase into an absolute cake walk.

Roy
Bairstow
Root
Morgan
Stokes
Buttler
Flintoff
Rashid
Swann
Archer
Gough

Unlucky to miss out - Plunkett, Collingwood, Trescothick, Lamb, Knight, Fairbrother, Willis.

Plunkett was England's best seam bowler in ODIs during their golden period of 2015-19, Rashid is arguably their best ever ODI spinner, and alongside Plunkett their highest wicket taker during said golden period. No idea why you think that is insane.

You've also excluded Roy on basis that "can't succeed in tests when it comes to the big boy stages of an ODI world cup"...yet Roy is the guy who smashed a quickfire 85 in the semis and averaged 64 in the 2019 world cup with a strike rate of comfortably 100+. Yet tresco makes your list on that criteria while losing it in WC and being completely useless in crunch games by your definition :laugh:8-)

The 2 spinners is a very good balance.

Lots of Test XIs here, let's do ODI ATG XIs...starting with England because they are the coolest ever ODI side:

1. J. Roy
2. J. Bairstow
3. J. Root
4. K. Pietersen
5. E. Morgan c
6. J. Buttler wk
7. B. Stokes ar
8. F. Flintoff ar
9. A. Rashid
10. D. Gough
11. L. Plunkett

Now that is some batting firepower. Could include the likes of Hales, Trescothic, maybe even Jimmy, Board or Botham.

If smith is in an ODI ATG side he bats 3 or doesn't play, his numbers below 3 are way to poor to justify him in the team.

unless it's a total motorway, putting jason roy in front of glenn mcgrath, shane bond or wasim akram is ending one way.

but i am more than happy for england to give the rest of the world the freebies of roy, plunket etc. i did forget willis which was a whoops.

Just bat Flintoff at 4 and move everyone else down 1 spot

Would smash any other country's ATG side tbh

That second Aussie XI is quite imbalanced. 4 left arm bowlers and then 10 overs between Watson and M Waugh. Also, lacking hitting power at the end though there is a lot of cake. Contrary to TJB, I believe they would struggle to beat most of the ATG first sides of other countries.

For some reason it never registered with me Lillee played ODIs despite ODIs being a thing during his career. That changes my Aus side tbh.

Adam Gilchrist (wk)
Mark Waugh
Ricky Ponting (c)
Dean Jones
Michael Bevan
Michael Hussey
Shane Watson
Mitchell Starc
Shane Warne
Dennis Lillee
Glenn McGrath

David Warner
Matthew Hayden
Steve Smith
Michael Clarke
Steve Waugh (c)
Andrew Symonds
Brad Haddin (wk)
Mitchell Johnson
Brett Lee
Brad Hogg
Nathan Bracken

Big (relative) step down to the seconds imo, though Warner and Hayden unlucky to miss out on the firsts. Death bowling in particular is lacking for this level. Josh Hazlewood, Jason Gillespie, Ryan Harris, Shaun the meme Tait and others unlucky here tbh.
