TEWATIA! Lmao. Specialist at hitting final over sixes, if there is such a thing.

Odean Smith attempting the run out on the 4th ball so dumb now in hindsight. He holds onto the ball and it's 13 needed off 2 hahaha.

Nah, don't need another super over
And it was Tewatia he would have gotten out.

This game man, cricket is so funny and painful at the same time.

First Ipl game I have watched in a long time and what a thriller ! Has there ever been a game at any level where 12 runs were needed and scored off the last two balls ?

Actually Cricinfo has the answer. Apparently it has happened three times:
"Vinay: "this is the first time 12 scored of last 2 balls to win a game in ipl, right?" --- You ask, and our stats hero Shiva Jayaraman delivers. There have been three previous instances of two sixes being hit off the last two balls to win a game in T20s where data is available. The last time this happened was in 2019, with Nishan Peiris sending Anuk de Alwis all the way. Before that, it was Dhoni hitting Axar for two in two in 2016."

Dhoni's game which I had never heard about was even more sensational than this: he needed 23 in the last over and 16 off the last three balls. Perhaps one of his very last great finishes.

BTW the loser in that game was also Punjab then called Kings XI though none of today's Punjab players were there, although ironically enough David Miller was on the team. I wonder if he remembered that game during this finale.

Odean really choked at the end there. No surprise because he doesn’t have a neck.

Both times, Tewatia premeditated and camped outside off stump. Smith's deliveries ended up being effectively leg stump freebies that could easily be swung through. I know plans and executing them are two different things but it was like watching Stokes bowl the same delivery over and over in 2016 despite knowing that's what the batter wanted.
