Ponting, all day, every day, twice on Sunday.

The guy was the best cross format batsman on the planet for probably a decade, the highest run getter in the 00s, an era where Tendulkar, Sehwag, Lara, Inzy, Yusuf, Younis, Chanderpaul, Hayden et al batted.

I still don't believe Steve Smith is categorically a better Test bat than either. Good arguments for, yes, but not clear cut for me.

Ponting is winning this handsomely and yet came in behind Chappell in the voting thread.
the fairest way is to draft 256 names into a straight KO 1vs1 voting competition, with all those who lose in each round being redrafted into battles to determine their final rankings.

Probably needs an entire subforum, but we'll finally get to the truth.

tough call comparing two masters. greg had a better technique, if there could be such a comparison at all, and I expect him to have done better in india for that reason. voting for him here because of his 35+ average against all nations in all conditions. only he and Sachin had that kind of consistency over long careers.

Chappell correct answer but Ponting much more fun. Pujara making Ponting taste it at the Gabba was hilarious, for example.

He didn't tour that many countries and most of the ones he did tour, he only did so once in his entire career. Its less impressive than you're making out imo.
