*Official* England in West Indies 2022

Given that we may expect the next pitch to be prepared along similar lines, and England's first choice spinner bowled more than 90 overs in the match, I wouldn't mind seeing Parkinson picked along side Leach for Grenada...

Much as I've admired Woakes as a cricketer for years he really seems to have lost something as a bowler of late. Gough was interesting on commentary regarding his technique, saying his leading arm was not working hard enough and suggesting it was a confidence thing. However, he clearly is posing no threat on this tour sadly.

If Robinson is available and match fit, I think he plays ahead of Fisher with Mahmood who looks like a Test bowler, backed up by Stokes (in short spells!) with two spinners. Although England probably worried about the lack of runs from No.8....

Are we at the stage with the Windies wickets where it may actually be easier for them to produce a turner than a seamer? If the tracks are getting flatter and slower, you have a better chance of success in preparing a turner IMO which will at least produce a result.
In Antigua yes, I'd agree. That's 2 tests in a row that had horrible boring pitches.

Barbados is a weird one because it was seam friendly less than 2 years ago. I just think they got this year's surfaces wrong.

St Lucia is seam friendly, T & T is good for bowlers, Jamaica produces results though could do with more carry. Guyana definitely favours spin in days 4 and 5.

So it's a mixed bag. I'd say Antigua needs a lot of work.

I thought good bowlers were always more likely to work on and improve on their batting. With bowlers it's not like they can often gain much extra pace

What about opening with mayers, don't think he'll do any worse than Campbell. Does it in t20 and can bowl and you still keep your 4 seamers

Braithwaite
Mayers
Brooks
Bonner
Blackwood
Holder
Silva
Joseph
Roche
Permaul
Seales

I just don't think our team management is that innovative. I think Mayers will come in for Brooks.

I really think they need to rest Jayden Seales, he's too important to us to overwork in 3 back to back tests. In the past we have made the mistake of not rotating bowlers during a series resulting in injuries or a reduction in pace. I hope they've learned from their mistake. For me Anderson Phillip comes in for Seales or Alzarri.

I just think that you need to try to win this test, if the pitch has any life in it the seales could help you win the series. With mayers in you will have 5 seamers. If its dead then seales doesn't have to be overworked

Yeah I'd play Searles anyway but make sure Mayers came in so his workload wasn't going to be huge. He's too obviously one of your best two bowlers at the moment to leave out unless he's actually injured IMO.
I can see your point on that. I would just prioritise Seales fitness over a single series result. He is precious. At the very lease I agree that Mayers has to come in for Brooks. He should never have been dropped in the first place.

I hadn't heard those Gough comments. He's coached Woakes before and always been complimentary about him so interesting to get his insight. I'm also a big Woakes fan but he's struggled to take wickets in away Tests previously even when he's bowled well - and he's been way short of his best in the Ashes and here. I don't think we'll see him in the 3rd Test and I think the Anderson/Broad succession plans will have already been revised based on how he's fared.

Word from the camp seems to be that Robinson and Overton are both expected to be fit so I think Woakes and Fisher drop out for Robinson plus either Overton or Parkinson depending on whether England want to go for the most interesting option or the least.

Sky reporting that Ollie Robinson won't be available for the 3rd test.

There's a forgettable tour for him.
There are worse places to have a quiet tour I guess....

Lots of media reporting a greener pitch in Grenada. I'll believe that when I see it!

I also feel like England know his skillset. It won't always be successful on flat pitches but you know you'll get a line and length and that he will be very effective on helpful surfaces.

Whereas this tour was a good chance to have a real look at Mahmood and Fisher and dare I say it, Parkinson. So I don't think it's the worst thing that he hasn't been available.

Confirmed Robinson not fit, so Woakes keeps his spot and Overton back for Fisher is the only change. No Parkinson.
Not a surprise, personally think 3 injuries were the only reason Fisher played, not sure that Parkinson and him were really in the plans, more for experience, and TBH not a terrible place for some net bowling and tutoring.

Think it maybe last-chance saloon for Overton, with the 2 old ones probably back in contention, and Mahmood coming through. Hopefully Archer, Wood and Stone back to fitness too come the Summer.

It has when you're watching Woakes being completely ineffective when leading the 'attack'.

a fair point but england also know Woakes' skillset and yet keep sending him on away trips to get 2-171

i mean even Alzarri would be embarrassed by 2-171
Yeah I don't get the Woakes selection either, particularly in a reset context.

Tbh England's selection policy has baffled me for some time.
