Looked at their W/L ratio only. There were more draws back then I suppose so W/L is right metric. WI in 1980s: 18, India in 2010s: 9 or so

India would get the edge but thats about it. Wi drew ONE series in the 80s at home and lost precisely one test in the 80s at home. Lucky for most teams they only played WI once in the Caribbean in that decade.

Shame Pujara declined so badly. He was immense in every series we won vs Australia in the last decade. Right from his debut match.

Yeah my worry is we currently don’t have any player who can occupy a crease for long period of time like he did. His ability to blunt attack has won us last three series against Australia.

Our current batting line up just doesn’t inspire enough confidence.

Of the current teams, only Australia has a snow balls chance in hell of winning in India. Every one else will likely get white washed if weather doesn't intervene.

My post was partially in jest, but in all fairness though, current Australian side has a lot going for them; their pace attack is strong as seen in current series, and their batting is vastly improved from last time with addition of Khawaja, Marnus. All-rounder like Green doesn’t hurt either. And they now have an experience of playing another major SC side after current series; so they won’t be without practice. On the other hand, question marks still remain about current Indian batting.

Let’s put it this way; Aus team will have a better shot than any other side in recent memory.

yeah there's a significant difference between the attritional decks seen in the UAE and now Pakistan and those often encountered in India where the spinning ball comes on quickly.

Malfunctioned there. Still though, Jadeja/Ashwin/Axar in India isn't exactly in the same plane as Carey/Starc/Cummins. Lyon and X probably better or even with the 2 Indian pacers.

Way too negative for no reason. Hindsight bias is not great for actual analysis.

As I said earlier, only 1 team can beat India in India. That's why hosts are too afraid to invite that team.

But conversely, the pitches and the way teams go for the win nowadays means you're also more likely to lose (very few draws around - present two series excepted). So a win % is another way of looking at it, and India really comes out hard on top there.
