So assume Randell covid / close contact? ND pace attack Wags + Matt Fisher + Kristian Clarke is interesting, pity they are not at EPOO so I could watch from the footpath ....

Vishvaka making his debut for firebirds today in place of Luke Georgeson. This has come out of nowhere. Good on the lad. He wasn't seriously considered as compared to some other players in Wellington but this kid has leap frogged into the side with some serious runs for Wellington As. He's a positive player and plays his shots. Will be watching to see if he does change his game or play like he usually does. Any debut by an youngster is an awesome feeling and exciting to follow.

Why do domestic sides ignore A cricket in favor of picking whoever they like but then flip the script and desperately cling on to less visually impressive cricketers at province level at the expense of some genuine talents?

Tim Robinson debut as well, by the looks of things. Not sure why Greenwood has fallen out of favour.
Agree with that... Nick Greenwood has looked a very good batter despite not having scored heaps. I suppose Vishvaka scored one too many runs to igrnore? Luke Georgeson is also a very good player, disappointed they don't want to persist with him. No offence to Vishvaka and he's definitely in good form but both Georgeson and Greenwood are good players. Still don't mind a bit of rotation though with Firebirds no chance of winning the trophy might as well try some players out this season.

Well, it's Robinson being selected as well as Vishvaka which I find odd. I thought Robinson had been purported to be a bit of a short-form specialist, and I didn't think his form had been great in the last few weeks.

Also slightly disappointed to see that Ravindra is the main spinner in the absence of Bracewell (clearly Bracewell's key spinner). I thought there might have been a chance for Younghusband or even McComb to get a go here. Newton-McPeake-Sneddon is a bit mediocre, really. All averaging over 30 and either late 20s/early 30s in age. I don't see any of them getting better.

They've rolled out a nice green deck, Otago winning toss and deciding to bowl first. I suppose Bracewell plays because he can bat and of course he bowls the most overs being the captain :D They'll be a batter less if they played Younghusband I guess. They probably needed an all rounder and I guess Younghusband would claim he is one.

Vishvaka's been mocked by Dale Phillips in close for some of his false shots and handling of Rae's short stuff, but he's punished anything overpitched and got to 42.

If he were a white Wellingtonian boy, he'd be thinking he'd already made enough to be retired by the coach and get a special treat from dad on the way home. Little wonder Indians now make up three of Wellington's top 4 in this format.

Gets a 50 in 61 balls... well played lad. Sure he doesn't look stunning but he does hit the ball when it's in his area and so far has backed what works for him.

Unfortunately both Rachin and Vishvaka out after getting to 50. Rachin looked like good enough to score 200 barely looked in any trouble but then he has conversion problem I guess. Can't take away anything from Rae, that was probably the best ball bowled today.

Canterbury 4 down, the ball nipping around. Toole is taking so many poles of late. Look a reasonable left arm pacer.

Thrilled that Wellington have picked Tim Robinson. An old timer at Onslow likens him to Fleming which may be a stretch but he's a talented ball striker.

William Clark also making his debut for CD and picked up Nicholls. Don't know much about him although see he played for NZ Under 19's a couple of years ago and gained some media coverage for his batting as a junior.

Yeah you're not to Taita players what Howsie is to ND at all, are you Heef.
Is supporting local players that I've seen the same as racial stereotyping? I think not.

I'm happy to not talk about Taita players, tbf. Maybe you could cut out the cod-psychology bullshit.

Guys like you contribute nothing other than sabotage to Wellington's youth, to be honest.
More cod-psychology. I'm not sure that just writing off a huge chunk of Wellington's cricketers because of their background does them many favours, but I doubt it'll prevent you from doing just that.

I think those kids are out and out kiwis anyways. I don't know what kippax meant there. Humans no matter where they come from battle the same fears, feel the same excitement. Don't think a particular race has anything to do with it.

Even if I take kippax's comments as having some truth I have to disagree with that opinion I've seen kids come and go of all backgrounds/race.

Just really happy to see the next generation firebirds kids making up the most of the spots in the team. I can't think of any borrowed player in the top 7 today. All home grown and they're doing all right. All of them have come from pathway. Good to see.
