How many times has a 50 and a 100 been made in successive balls in test cricket? Can't have been many right?

Good stuff from Root and Lawrence has injected some much needed tempo into the innings

Might not translate so easily to home conditions but Root still being Root at 3 is really very handy.

If it's true that he genuinely volunteered to move there, I never had much of a problem with it. Of course with our batting line up, there's really not much difference between 3 and 4 ATM, so at least we have a better chance of not being 50-4 constantly now.

Still would rather we had good openers and a player accustomed to batting 3, but we haven't so I guess it's fine to just make the line-up look a bit more solid, and Lawrence is the kinda attacking bat that could thrive at 4, IF he doesn't come in too early, with Root at 3 better chance that'll happen.

Will be interesting against the NZ, SA and (1 test) Indian quicks. He definitely does best on slower, spin friendly decks, but is in an amazing run of form. Well done to him.

I think he’ll struggle against the NZ quicks. They’re like tailor made for English conditions. He struggled against them last year as well. Too bad he doesn’t play his home games in the subcontinent.

Lawrence you moron. Dammit. Was very keen to see him get his first ton. Now he's taken the shine off what should have been (and sadly probably still is) one of England's best days of Test cricket in some time.

Three years and seventeen Tests ago Smith only needed another four, but he's only made one. During the last Ashes in England some of his fans were predicting 50 centuries including at least 15 in the Ashes.
