Bonner is like Chanderpaul from the mid-2000s. Now if they can just find a Gayle and a Sarwan to help him out sometimes....
Alas that feels a long way off. He'll be relying on Kraigg, Holder or Da Silva as Blackwood has lost the plot and Brooks just isn't that good.

So the main talking points for Haynes and Sarwan are:

Permaul - is it too harsh to drop a guy for one bad test? Especially after taking 8 wickets in the previous match. He was comprehensively out bowled by Leach though, who IMHO is really average. If you do drop him who comes in? Rakheem? Warrican? Chase (Please Lord no)?

Blackwood - he was excellent in 2019/2020, average in 2021 and atrocious so far this year. His modes of dismissal are getting worse and worse. How long do they put up with it for?

Brooks - Why the hell did he play instead of Mayers? Surely that mistake has to be rectified in Barbados?

Gabriel - apparently he's close to fitness again. If so, he probably has to come in as we lacked pace. But who for? Seales is a gun and for once Alzarri wasn't too bad

Hard to discuss your views on bowling when you've got this silly bias against Leach, who has probably been the best bowler of this test.

Who is picking the England side? Root bowling Stokes at the end, when he looked ready to go any ball, didn't seem very bright but Root may be saying Woakes and Overton need to go.

Too bad England indicated they're not in the business of trying to win Test matches right now, because I'm sure either Anderson or Broad (or both) could have been handy in doing so.

How on earth did that end up a draw

Also Carlos Brathwaite with the worst take on it. What a soft prick.

I've watched a lot of Leach over the years. He bowled well here, but maintain he's pretty ordinary tbh. Hardly a silly bias if it's based on a significant body of work.

These two sides are obviously very average, but attritional stuff (good word that) on slow wickets like here and what is currently taking place in Pakistan isn’t what Test Cricket needs. Some days have been very dull viewing even for the diehards.

I think in general there are positives for England. But the weaknesses were there, the opening of the 1st innings, the poor use of the new ball and over bowling some bowlers.

Interesting to see what changes are made for Barbados.

Fair enough difference of opinion on a player.

I think he's been by far our best Test match (edit) spin bowler since Swann, in that other than on Oz pitches he gives us control, gawd knows where we would have been in this match without him. He's not super ***y but does a job.

I mean the control might not be needed if we didn't pick injured or lesser pace bowlers, but hey that's another story.

Yeah, Leach is fine. Has his limitations and I still feel he can be relatively easy to attack at times, but on the whole he's a decent test spinner imo. The Ashes wasn't a good series to him, but over the years we've seen some otherwise very good spinners go over there and struggle, so whilst you can't just give him a pass for it, it's not a huge black mark on his record

Yeah Leach is good despite Pant smashed him for fun he had his number on Pujara.
Is there any spinner that doesn't occasionally get whacked when a bat goes t-20 mode. Thing is you can beat people in flight, bowl a good ball, and still get the ball muscled over the bounday, just has to be accepted at times. You pick up some filthy wickets that way too, so it's not all minuses, but yeah the mishit 6's wind me up a bit.

Leach has good control and consistency. Put him on turning wickets, and he'll take lots of scalps. On wickets that are flatter or more seamer-friendly, he can do a holding role. But that also relies on his batsmen and his other bowlers doing their job. England have messed him around already. Just keep playing him, Stokes and your three best quicks.
