Doesn’t really look like Pakistan are making a full-blooded play for it anyway, so my theory about a potential attack to pressure Australia is looking moot.

I do think Rizwan > Pant but anyone claiming one is far better than the other has the obvious "its only cricket in Aussie summer" syndrome IMO. Anyone who has seen both play knows its close as far as tests go. Rizwan still clearly better but Pant is narrowing the gap all the time.

Of course, when we consider all formats, Rizwan is far better as I dont think Pant is any good in LO cricket at this point.
Pant is still devastating in white ball cricket, but in tests Rizwan is technically tighter with batting and keeping and less prone to brain explosions. Pant is an amazing ball striker though, especially to spinners. It is useful to have that x-factor player like a Stokes or De Grandhomme.

I think this is in the top five somnambulant pitches I’ve seen at test level. Even out of what little rough there is, the turn is slow AF.

Whatever it takes!!!

Nah, I feel you are overrating his white ball prowess and underrating his red ball prowess there. He can bat properly when he needs to and bat time anywhere and on any pitch. He just has to learn when to attack and when to hold back.

You know you've got it horribly wrong when you bowl a leggie and DRS rules it out because it's hitting the batsman outside off stump. By almost a foot.

I wonder why Lyon’s record is so bad vs Pakistan? It isn’t like they’re especially regarded as great players of spin.

I think he thrives on pitches that have bounce moreso than spin, which is why he does well on pitches like the Gabba. The UAE pitches and this one just don't suit him at all imo.

Tests in UAE/Pakistan catapult Lyon into leader of the attack status without giving the spinners too much to work with outright. He's just not good at bowling long, long spells without the quicks to fall back on.

Yeah, definitely someone who works better as a support act and not when he's the main man and perceived as the main threat.
