Younghusband ( the specialist spinner) has now bowled 8 out of a total of 69 over of spin in the match to date.. Really what is the point of playing him? Specialist fielder?
Serious questions need to be asked about Michael Bracewell bowling himself ahead of someone, you know, selected for that specific job. Otherwise, Wellington should have been selecting a batsman ahead of Younghusband. Just lunacy.

Macewell and Pocknall wouldn't have wanted to be opening their new ball attack with Neesham and playing Younghusband, of course. It's a reflection of just how late a scratching Nathan Smith was, I suspect.

Yeah, good point, actually.

Been a common theme with Georgeson dismissals now, and back in Spring. Knicking off to right armers pitching on, or even ouside, leg - and it moving away.

Squared up today.

Younghusband isn't far from the team as a specialist bat tbf.

1-8 (10) for Joe Walker so far. Feels like he bowls a lot of those sorts of spells; gold for a spinner in NZ.

Solia also a close contact FWIW (replaced by Will O'Donnell); if anyone's wondering why Robbie O'Donnell is bowling overs.

Is he? Is the batting talent in Wellington club cricket so poor that we have to be constantly treated to a tail that begins somewhere around 4 or 5 in the order? Younghusband is 32. If you're going to select someone as a no-rounder, then at least pick someone younger. Greenwood would have been a better option in my view.

Younghusband at least is someone who averages high 30s in FC. Not saying he's that quality of a bat, but he's the rare proven bat.

(FWIW I think of Gibson as the worse no-rounder. He's done practically nil since his hundred in late 2020. He is someone who is negatively affected by the meme number of bowling options Wellington has. He's doesn't bowl near as much as a Solia.)

Nathan Smith yet again proving he's not as bad a bat as Wellington make him out to be. Showing good intent with the bat. I think he would have been very handy with the ball on this deck.

Yep although not sure that's a particularly great sign for NZ's health in the longest format. No real U17 or U19 bowling pedigree to Keene when he's got the white Kooka in hand. He seems to be replicating the county 2nd XI vibes of Sean Davey's 5/19 or whatever at Hagley this time last year.

I would've rather seen Auckland get pumped and then turning to Samrath Singh in 2022/23. ND U19 were getting hurried up by Samrath earlier in the season. Before long perhaps everyone will be feeling Samrath's wrath.

Also a theme with Rachin as well nicking off to slips of late? As someone pointed out on this forum what's with good players going to black caps and then come back regressing rather than progressing? Looks like Rachin has lost his ability to play shots consistently in red ball cricket and when he does he seems to nick off. Although he did pick few wickets his lengths and line is not as convincing as it used to be. Hopefully he's just out of touch and hasn't had enough game in the middle rather than chinks in his technique.

Happened with Blundell too a while ago, was always in the BC squad but not playing enough meaning missing games for firebirds and when he got to play he looked out of touch.

Keene is having a good start to his career
And he can bat as well I think. Definitely a good find for Aces. Lovely action and rhythm but obviously 125-130k ish bowling. If he starts to show reasonable batting skills he'll be one for the long run.

More bowling dominance in internal ND play for Tim Pringle. He has 9 of the first 11 Waikato Valley wickets to fall in the current Fergus Hickey game....
On the same topic, who are the young players that might get a Plunket Shield debut in the next month? Cumming and Parkes and Kristian Clarke are now off the list.

ND: Fergus Lellman (possible at #5 when de Grandhomme on ODI duty and Santner to IPL), Tim Pringle (might play if Sodhi picked for Netherlands ODI series)
Wgtn: Jesse Tashkoff (unlikely, too many other batting options)
Cant: Rhys Mariu (unlikely, too many other top order batting options)
Otago: Beckham Wheeler-Grennall (possible at #6/7 to support fragile top order)

Any others?

I think he was also the top run scorer and top wicket taker in the BOP Club T20 Competition this season. Kid is showing some serious potential.

Vishvaka will be getting pretty close to getting the nod over Georgeson and Bhula. May as well give him a taste with nothing riding on Wgtn's remaining fixtures.

What are Tashkoff's chances of breaking into the top team in the next couple of seasons? I wonder if Otago have their eye on him to fill Kitchen's spot?
