Sitting out of voting cuz I want to do more research, but not sure if Benaud at 13 is right at all. Off the top of my head I'd suggest Chandra, Rhodes, Herath, Qadir, the two Mushtaq's and Bedi are all arguably better bowlers. And we've not even gotten to Faulker and the other SA googly bowlers.

I'd have thought you'd parrot the Answer that is Jadeja there as well.

I really rate Jadeja but not sure I'd have him in the Top 15. If he gets past 300 Test wickets he might squeak into the Top 20 tho.
The dude with a bowling average of 24 (21 at home) won't finish in the top 20 spinners. And with his batting average of ~35ish, and hs fielding, is also likely not to finish in the top 15 or so all rounders.

Something's very, very wrong with that. If he'd played in the 1920s or something he'd be hailed as the GOAT cos no one would actually have watched him.

I think it's just because his career is ongoing. We know he's great but he's had around 5.5 years of being a gun a Test level. The more he builds on this record (and he will), the higher up he'll go in the rankings. But if his performances drop off a cliff from here on in then that's not as impressive a record as some other spinners on this list.

Another issue that works in favour of the pre-Limited Overs era of players is that they have such large bodies of work in FC cricket to draw from. Jadeja and other modern players are constantly switching between formats and only play Tests while at their peak. They don't have that same weight of numbers.

Exactly. Words of truth. And it is not as if he got all those numbers at home versus weak opponents. His numbers are good everywhere, Godly at home and against top nations. Both batting and bowling numbers. And he competes for the best fielder in the world currently to boot.

And can`t buy a vote here.

Jadeja has played more than 100 first class games. Averages above 45 with the bat and below 25 with the ball. How many spinners in history have that FC record to draw from?
