CW's Ranking of Spinners (Tests)

You are quite right. I stuffed up my calculations. Kumble has 200 wickets away from the SC @ 35.2

My revised rankings are: Bedi=Chandrashekar>Kumble >Ashwin=Jadeja
I'm rating Kumble above Ashwin and Jadeja because of the volume of wickets.
Chandrashekar was much more devastating than Bedi.

To me, I will always pick Wasim and Warne over say a Murali or an Ambrose in my ATG XIs because I like the additional skillsets they bring to the XI but as pure bowlers, Murali is pretty clearly better than Warne IMO and same with Ambrose and Wasim.

Basically my argument for Smith over Tendulkar tbh. Nothing drastic, and a cordon of Smith, Sobers and Richards at 1st, 2nd and 3rd would be bullet proof and when not required. , Vivian could slide out and be excellent anywhere.

But using your argument. Hadlee, Wasim, Marshall and Warne would have a little bit of everything and bat till 11.

But is Wasim's variety (and batting) worth skipping over, let's say 5 better bowling options? Sincere question to you.

Whatever it takes!!!

Yes, because especially with bowlers, people make the mistake that the game is only played at one end. The attacks the bowlers were a part of, the type of bowlers they bowled with - they all matter. And ultimately, the stats do not mean you are going to get wickets exactly at that average everytime either. A bowling average difference of 1 or 2 does not matter to me, if the other bowler gives me better variety and a different challenge to the batsmen of the opposition team.
