ZCC and FHK both won their CWC4 games and their Cup matches! FHK toppling Morpork the day after losing a close Div 2 SOD game was especially pleasing, since we brought in allrounder Andy Li for spinner LOY to deepen the batting. Seems like it paid off, might be a strategy we use more in the future.

Good little 3-match series with Winton CC and JoJo as well. I think we won both 2-1, defeating them in SOD and T20 but losing both Dev games. Our next gen of youngsters aren't quite ready to carry the Dev side forward yet, need to focus more coaching resources on them to ease this transition.

Was looking at our head to head yesterday (Winton v *****) we lead 4-2 in DEV games after yesterday but 0-9 in OD and T20 games

Looks like most of us (who've survived) have tough R2 Cup draws.

AXI vs ZCC T20 about to begin. Good to see Ed Halliday get a game - think he might break into the top ZCC T20 side this season, since defense is all but irrelevant (?).

geez why can't they bowl like this in our league games!

6 U21s in this XI and 59K ratings. I don't think this is a strong enough XI to avoid relegation in EurAfrica T20 Div 2 yet, but maybe in a couple of weeks.

AXI did well to bat the 20 overs given they were 25/7 after 6.3! Real bad day with the bat. Lots of cloud cover and wear on the pitch, but the new ball bowling wasn't that exceptional. Should have managed more than 71/9 against an avg bowling quality of 5.8

And yea tough cup R2 draws. ZCC have got the world #8 team while FHK got the world #13!

That might be my worst batting performance ever lol. My bowlers outrated ZCC's and were a solid 0.7 better. But under heavy cloud cover my sloggers couldn't slog, and the rest of the batting folded until the tail memed. The normally aggressive homegrown duo of Murdoch and Ludlow had a partnership of *checks notes* 22 (43)... in a T20. The last-wicket partnership was the best; a quick 20* (28). We were literally 30-7 (10) lol.

Will have to change my tactics on such a pitch in the future. Hopefully AX-W vs FHK in the morning is a closer game.

TBH would love it if FHK got him and trained him up. He would be such a meme player to pull out in T20s, and would also mean FHK could play 6 bowlers without a tailender at 8.

AX-W is training a couple of T20 specialists in Mortimer and Hastelow, but they aren't as good.

Was trying to groom Umer Ashraf as the next ZCC captain, but he's not quite good enough if we want to get back into Div 1.

Could do a job at FHK but don't mind if any other club wants to take a crack and maxing him out. Training resources at FHK are tight atm!

Having said that, Hetal Tyagi could fit in as a good stop-gap allrounder at FHK. Our Dev team needs some bolstering, free up the older kids to play more senior cricket. Tempted to make a bid but that would be breaking the homegrown policy, unless I expand it to include all CW teams. Hmm...

With my homegrown I want to have a pretty cast-iron succession plan, so AX-W might be a bit less adventurous than FHK with people like Nouding and Tyagi. Currently former AXI stalwarts Goliath and du Preez are playing for AX-W, but mainly just to bolster the CWC4 side and will be culled after that.

It means a lot more variety in strategy and utilising guys with low potentials a lot more, and I like that. Like, looking at my current side I have a few guys who will play 1 game max a week, a friendly specialist, two T20-specialists-in-training, and two undevelopable older homegrown players.

Tyagi might be a good fit for AXI also.

Succession plans are so important.

FHK just need a good U21 spinner for the short term. Lester Shum is ageing out of Dev cricket this season, leaving just Andy Li. Shum/Andy can justify a spin-friendly surface in senior cricket for the next 5-7 seasons, but our Dev side will struggle unless we can find a couple of other kids who bowl spin. Got some batting allrounders in there now to support Andy, hopefully our scouts uncover someone good soon. Also really need to start getting these kids more first-XI cricket - our Dev side without the senior-team players rated just 33k vs JoJo on Sunday!

ZCC's succession plan is going well, just missing a really good young wicketkeeper/batsman. Ed Samuels is just 42 pot with the bat, and is heavily attack skewed. Also is already 17 and just 9 batting and 2 keeping. We've not done a good job developing him. He should get more game time this season, as Madani/Ahsan/Ramalingam are all 21 and ageing out soon. Got him working with a coach too. But ideally we find a better prospect soon.

ZCC are also missing a wonderkid of Raun's ability. IDK if we can push for Div 1 without another prospect like him. ATM we're trending to have a bunch of 37-42 skill guys in a few seasons but no one really world class. No money in the bank to sign any of the gun prospects that are appearing on the market either. We will probably remain competitive and hang around Div 2 for a while, but it could be a very long time till we're a Div 1 quality team again.

To me it seems like ZCC are going to find it hard to gain a lot of money, what with the cavernous ground and generally high wages. I sympathise with the wonderkid thing - you don't want to fork out millions on someone, but you don't want to have a bunch of mid-to-high 40 pot as the best guys in your side.

My best YPs have all been mid-40-pot players, which is somewhat annoying. Would really appreciate a wonderkid, lol.

What’s the definition of homegrown? I assumed no signings at all but have both used players from your mains?
