i will take Harry Tector instead, who has had a decent start to his ODI career so far. This unfortunately means I can't now get Andy Balbirnie for 2008, but Callum Macleod and Tom Cooper are 2 suitable replacements(i'm last to pick from 2008 so it's okay I talk about this >_>)

have to decide whether to go with either the guy with 8 ODI tons or the proven shield performer who's ODI career was brief. think i'll lean to the latter

i was gonna suggest Dias or Duleep Mendis but realised they debuted a bit earlier

actually **** it, i want Balbirnie. Gonna pick Najmul Hossain Shanto for 2018. Hasn't done much in ODIs but has got 2 test tons for Bangas. That's something

Cooper never did anything against a big 8 ODI side, Macleod had that one knock against England but has also mainly cashed in against minnows

Balbirnie is actually getting better and better and has scored 4 tons against the big 8, so it has to be him for me. Can't justify having 2 batsmen in an ODI side who played less than 20 ODIs despite Cooper looking like a jucy pick at first

I wanted to guarantee I got as many ATGs as possible from the big 8, I got 6.5(McCullum is nearly there). the situation that trundler finds himself in, 'wasting' a top 8 pick with a no name Sri Lankan seemed dire to me.

It meant passing up on the rare gems outside the big 8 ie Shakib, Morgan and Flower but I felt it was worth it

Mccullum was very good in ODIs. Definitely an ATG.

Mine was similar-ish, hence starting with Aravinda but I targeted a couple of great allrounders in Flintoff and Dev to give depth in batting and bowling so I could afford to leave a minnow keeper til the end since he only has to bat at 8, and use a minnow specialist bowler as my 5th bowler.
I have had some luck with getting Brandes who was the only 1986er that could make my strategy work and using my table identified a gun player that now no one else can pick so I am taking him in R11.

I wanted to make sure I had no weak links from the minnows. Missing Aravinda and Dilshan was a right kick in the nads for that plan though. Thought picking from the early years was vital too and probably went for Imran too early; taking Aravinda at that stage would've been epic.

Yeah, I went for Sanath as soon as I realised SL were the one top 8 side who would run out of ATGs first. They have some of truly top tier players in Jayasuriya, Aravinda and Murali but fall into ATVG territory before both NZ and Pakistan do(and the SL ATGs are kinda condensed to the 80s and 90s). I was considering to leave Australia to near the end as it's essentially an auto ATG but combined with the time period restrictions it made 81-85 Dean Jones look very appealing

I too did not look much into other teams. I just went with the simple strategy of picking the best available player at that point of time.
