***Official New Zealand Domestic Season 2021/22***

Plunket Shield restarts today, unfortunately closed doors at EPOO so I can't pop in to watch. But streaming on YouTube.

1st Auckland FC game of the summer. Some runs for Glenn Phillips might remind the NZ selectors that he is ready for more test cricket. Jamieson getting a well-needed red ball test warmup. Ashok in squad but 12th man.

ND without Boult (perhaps same personal reasons that made him miss Super Smash final?). Katene Clarke (not in 13 player squad announced yesterday) picked ahead of Popli. Randell and Joe Walker being rewarded for pre-Christmas FC success by being picked ahead of Kuggs and Sodhi.

Ashok and Sodhi both left on the bench lol. Will make the game a bit less interesting.

Ferguson was injured in that Ford Trophy match FTR.

Fair number of games today but I'm really out of the domestic games at the moment. It is all over the place. No one's fault but then there is a plunkett shield and couple of ford trophy games on at the same time.

Although I have followed most games I'm kind of out of it a bit with no international cricket. Never been like this for me, have always been an ardent domestic cricket fan but keeping up with it this season has been hard with games/formats all over the place. I won't even know who's the form team unless I look up the past results and points table.

I hope Boult is ok. One of cricket's happy guys who loves to run around and play the game with that cheeky grin.

Glad to see Smith opening up the bowling for Wellington. Hopefully he'll be better used in the longer formats and perhaps at the moment the T20 razzle-dazzle isn't quite suited to his game.

Oh my god !!!!!!!!!!!!!! How are you going to cope?! It's not tidy.

Sorry for my sarkiness, but as per the other thread. This kind of thinking re; neat scheduling is a problem.

Starting to realize like the old days, PS, SS, Ford trophy and PS. A bit of order is good to keep up.

I think the only order required is for the Super Smash. As that is what is televised and makes at least some money.

The rest of it should be pure preparation for the real money maker - The Blackcaps.

There can still be some order, though. E.g. 2 rounds PS, then 3 games of FT (Weekend > Wed > Weekend), then back to 2 rounds of PS etc.

It's ironic - that to be a Blackcap in the modern age - you need to be adept at switching between formats, and expect no red ball prep before a test series. Yet, at the level below, we produce players who are used to playing in huge uninterrupted blocks of formats, no quick switching backwards and forwards, and there is zero commercial explanation at that level for this non-ideal coddling. And if a new player happens to get elevated from this mollycoddled non-switching domestic environment - they will never be well prepared for home test debuts based on recent PS rounds. as it always goes for a 3 month hiatus during the time we play our 2 incoming test tours.

Bowes will be gutted with that dismissal on 99. Also no Fletcher today. Even with Latham keeping thought he'd merit a spot as a batsman ahead of Carter. Maybe just being given a break?

99 of a 218 total still counts as "sacred heart...undergirded the whole thing" in my books.

Still pulls the short ball about as poorly as Ken McClure, but Bowes really gets his cut shots humming at the Basin damn near every visit. Needs to be signed tbh.

Was watching the game for a bit, both Allen and Ravindra were smashing it. They were like 80 something for no loss and thought it's a done game. Just checked back in and firebirds have lost so many wickets. The good thing is Rachin looking real good, everything from the middle of the bat and so is Allen.

Lots of soft or strange dismissals for firebirds, Rachin stumped down leg, Devon leaving a ball and gloving it, Bracewell playing on and Neesham run out... Strange the way things go in cricket. One minute you're bossing it and the next you are nowhere.

Good to see Santner consistent with the bat. I guess dropped from the black caps test side has motivated him to bat better rather than take the spot for granted. There is still time for him to get back in the side if he starts to turn the ball and puts some revs to it.

I think there was a run there and it was Neesham's call but Bracewell rightly didn't want to risk that one. Real tea pot from Neesham.
Ha, there might have been but he's hit it to cover, there's no run, something goes awry but he can't be expecting Bracewell to be ready for that. He sooked it up deluxe, but I imagine he would have apologised later on.
