There's no line of succession apparent in the limited overs setup. All that matters is the most recent IPL season.
Can't agree more. I have high expectations from Rohit/Rahul combination in cleaning up this mess, but everything can get even worse if Rohit stays injured and Kela Rahul is leading the side. Even taking a chance with someone like Gill for the captaincy will work in the long-term, but not Kela.

I understand about Venky, he is an all-rounder, but Shreyas should have been behind SKY, Shaw, Gill, Kishan and DDP to start-off with.
I agree with the line of thought but reasoning is that Shaw Gill Kishan and DDP are all openers. So, the number 4 position is basically between Iyer and SKY. Iyer got it first based on seniority and being the incumbent.

Most of Indian top players Young/old are top order players in IPl. Young ones don't know exactly how to construct a inns in middle order. While they certainly are good enough for T20 stuff they don't have the game yet to do that for longer periods in ODIs.

So atm more wise thing is to let Young guys including SKY who bats at 3 in IPl to bat in Top 3.

Let Kohli & Rahul bat at 5 &6. No 4 to Pant. This would work better in case collapse happens or even if we get to a flier.

With the advent of jamodis it is easy to mix up what we have done in t20s and odis. We have been good in t20s - bilaterals at least - but ODIs have been an issue since the 2019 wc when we picked a meme MO that was never going to be good enough in an important game ie Jadhav, Pandey, Rayudu etc. and didn't even stick with 1 of them when it really mattered.

Agreed Indian batting unit at least looks ok at T20 level. You can bank on guys like SKY Iyer Kishan to play meaningful quick cameos or heck even Kela Rahul.

Issue at bowling are deep. But Harshal Patel looks like a proper T20 specialist bowler at least in Asian conditions with his cutters. Not sure how well he will go in Australia so giving few games to Siraj won't be a bad idea vs WI & Lankans.

I think out and out pace is becoming relevant again in the shorter formats and perhaps less so in Tests where slow but accurate bowlers can prey on the modern batsman's diminishing technique and patience. Guys like Bhuvi and Harshal can still possibly do a job in Asia but they're going the distance elsewhere.

That makes sense, I hope Iyer starts contributing in that case. He has all the tools to be a good middle order bat but his temperament and pre-meditated shots are a problem. Even in the last game, he batted with a cool had at start and then decided to just randomly switch gears and started batting with a slightly different stance to tonk the ball. Other batters look fairly balanced throughout the innings. He just needs to play each ball on its merit instead of being defensive till he crosses 15-20 runs and then trying something different.

KL Rahul:
"I am quite confident in my leadership skills and I know that I can bring the best out of the players and I know I can do the job for the team, for the country, for my franchise, I am not someone who judges myself based on the results. There are certain boxes that I need to tick as a leader and if I am doing all of those things and if my team is happy with how I am leading them, that's the most important thing."

Delusion:
A belief or altered reality that is persistently held despite evidence or agreement to the contrary.

MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli both used to speak about the process being more important than the results all the time too. This isn't some new line of thinking brought in by Lokesh/Dravid:

Even Pant is quoted with this line of thinking:

Not saying this makes Lokesh a good captain, it's just a weird thing to pick on him for. Almost all professional athletes follow the mantra of putting processes over their results these days. The problem lies in if these processes are good enough.
