If we have to chart out the classic gaps and weaknesses for each team the past two decades:

Pakistan: Good opener, strong captain

India: Used to be a matchwinning pace bowler, but they have that covered recently. I think a pace bowling all-rounder who is clutch lower in the order really would balance out the side.

Aus: Allrounder (lets see how good Green turns out to be)

Sri Lanka: World class pacer

Eng/NZ/SA: Worldclass spinner

WI: World class pacer, consistent top order batsman

Depends on the era.

Up until McWarne's retirement....I'm honestly not sure of how you would significantly improve it. So maybe just get the best available cricketer, I guess :p

07-11 the answer would've been a spinner. Problem is there weren't many great spinners back then. I guess Murali then by default.

The 11-15 I think a great #3 would've been the go - so probably Sanga?

The 2015-2020 period I'm taking Stokes.

The current side......again not certain. Maybe Rohit, Conway or Karunaratne (whoever you consider the best opener is)

someone like Laxman or Mohammad Azharuddin would haved filled a nice niche in an Australian batting lineup. Wristy legside player good against spin, areas where we're lacking

Think we’ve got the all rounder thing covered with Green, and guys like Marsh, Cartwright and Stoinis hanging around if need be.

Our glaring weakness is class opening bats

Shakib with some professionalism shoved up his arsehole would have been a great player for NZ during his career span across all formats, and all SENA sides tbh.

The Fleming era always lacked a true #3, so I think even a mid range top order player like Sarwan would have been greatly appreciated in that time.
