Why on earth is rahul opening now? He was great at 4/5, should have given chances to young guys like Shaw, pakiddal or gaikwad.

Also, why Ashwin over krunal? If we wanted a spinner who can add batting depth at 7 krunal is a far better option, he won India the 1st ODI vs England last year.

India Should go for
1.Rohit/Dhawan

8.Shardul/Deepak chahar
9.Chahal/Rahul chahar/bishnoi
10.Bumrah
11.Shami/Bishnoi

Whatever it takes!!!
The ODI team was in a mess under Kohli. In fact I wouldn't mind blaming him for where the team stands today.
I don't know how people are connecting everything to Kohli's captaincy and Shastri's exit. A team doesn't become this bad overnight. Lack of availability of some of our key all-rounders has hurt our chances, but we were anyways a mess in white ball cricket. Look at our recent WC outing, we were terrible in the first 2 games, played 90s style cricket and lost the only two games that counted.
We are connecting the overall state of Indian cricket with the horribilities perpetuated by Ganguly. Our ODI team was not a mess per se, but our overall LO teams were not good and that is why it made sense to move from Virat to Rohit as captain. The way it was all done though and the fact that they seem to have alienated Virat completely is as much an issue as anything regarding our style of play is, though.

Next game I hope Dravid shows some spine & make a few changes. Though the squad selected is outrageous.. But still.

Ruturaj (Dravid deserves a sack if guy doesn't gets a game here)
Dhawan
Kohli
Pant
Rahul
Venky
Shardul
J Yadav (over Ashwin)
Chahal (no one else in squad)
Siraj
Prasidh (X factor pace + Bounce)

Bumrah rested... Give poor guy a break. Drop Bhuvi.
Dhawan is ultra slow in the field and a problem too. I would play Ishan there and see what he brings to the table.

Our ODI team wasn't in a mess ? This is why we were hammered in AUS and NZ ?

We are playing outdated brand of ODI cricket and our fast bowlers don't strike in 1st 10 overs.

I mean we had more issues in T20Is than we did in ODIs.

And honestly, if this management think Pant is our #4 for ODIs, then we at least have to stick with it. I dont agree with it and I dont see him being a success long term, but at least put enough time in him to see if it works. This at least means our top 4 can be reasonably settled across the 2 LO formats. Rohit, Rahul, Virat, Pant. Add Jaddu at 7, Bumrah at 10. We have these 6 players as certainties now. Gotta build around them.

As I said earlier though, I dont agree with this side or view.

We have more issues in T20 I , this is why we have won all bilateral series in AUS, ENG, NZ ? Even at home we whitewashed NZ 3-0.

I think you are mixing the formats.

I think you are mixing results of JAM games with our actual performance in those games. The outdated style of cricket costs us more in T20s than it does in ODIs. Anyways I have made my point.

Well 280+ was a decent enough score batting first here but bowling is just simply outrageous. On a good batting track we will be constantly chasing 350+ with same attack.
This is what happened in NZ Aus ODI series as well.
Dhawan is not going anywhere sadly. As much as I want Kishan/Ruturaj there. Kishan should be no 1 choice in T20Is at least.
We have to make huge calls to build ODI team. Guys like Harshal Patel D Chahar are strict T20 players & trundlers can work in T20s with change ups. Hopefully selectors don't mix formats & genuine pace takes over in ODIs. Avesh Prasidh Siraj are as ready as they will ever gonna be. Avesh is standout in IPl. Siraj is beast in IPl too.

Weak middle order lack of depth are way bigger problems than the style. Things go wrong after the 30th over. India failed to build after a decent start in both games.
Our solution to improve our middle order is to play Ashwin at 7.

It's really a complete mess, bowlers can't buy a wicket, batsman are struggling to get to scores which are 50 below par.

Dumb Dravid call. Rahul at no 5 was averaging almost 70 odd & a S/R of 105 in last 2 years.. With in form Ruturaj as Opener we could have solidified our lower middle order with Rahul. Absolute carnage by coaching staff & TM... Makes me miss legend Shastri & kolli duo
Can't blame him for that, Dravid didn't ask him to bat selfishly.

It's kinda true though, Dravid has to take a bit of blame there as does Rahul himself I suppose, given he's captain now.

Rahul shouldn't be opening, it should be Kishan or Rituraj (given the current squad). Rahul was doing really well at 5 in ODIs for a while and we'd been struggling to find someone to bat there for ages.

KL is a liability in the ltd overs sides. Fine batsman with all the strokes but he's daft like a block of wood when it comes to knowing his role in colored clothes. No wonder his IPL side has been so miserable despite him regularly getting the pink/purple/whateverthef*k cap.
He should be told to just hit off. He has all the shots to be very good attacking limited overs batsman. Needs to be talked out of his "strike rates are overrated" mindset.

It's a pop-gun "attack" and probably the most boring to watch of all regular teams. Has nothing to entice one to tune in.
Our attack was so so good until we met England in world cup 2019. Hasn't found it's foot since then. Plus non existent middle order. This team is complete ****

And that ought to be the coach's job. I can't believe someone like Dravid isn't able to see what the rest of us slobs so obviously do, so what's going on? I think Dravid's too reticent and too nice to read the riot act to these IPL prima donnas. I'm coming around to accepting that Shastri managed the task masterfully: worked himself into the captain's good graces, wowed the rest of the team with showmanship, and coordinated steategy with the support staff behind the scenes. Am I being too generous to the wino, too harsh on Dravid? Probably, but hard to shake the feeling that the team's adrift atm.
