Am I just an old fuddy duddy man or do others share this sentiment? I find the annoying music between balls as opposed to a natural crowd atmosphere completely contrived and it takes me out of the moment because the whole game suddenly feels fake. Sport is tribal drama and if you're playing music to try and get the crowd involved then there's something wrong with the product. Im thinking back to watching world series games in the late 80s and early 90s at the SCG. The crowd chants were electric as everyone cared deeply enough about the result to act together.

The most embarrassing and awkward BBL crowd gee up is the queen "aye oi". It was great when Freddie Mercury did it in concert because he's a singer and he's bringing the audience into his world but during a cricket match it falls flat without any context.

Actually I'm watching the Aus open right now and there's plenty of atmosphere without the crowd announcer yelling at the crowd every minute.

Agree with you ttm. It's confected hype and it doesn't work. I think it's been around so long now I sort of filter it out and don't notice it as much as I used to, but it's dross. Much like TJB and Nintendo's posts and their faces.

Apparently James Seymour is a top bloke. Guy at my club played a couple of years at Essendon - Seymour was one of the few first teamers who took the time to help other players. It was usually every man for himself.
