i enjoyed the way tendulkar played ajmal in the 2011 wc semi final that still makes ajmal cry about some lbw that everyone else has forgotten
I cry more about the four drops of Tendulkar in that innings

But Tendulkar did struggle in that knock against Ajmal.

Isn’t the difference that Warne has a well known beef against Steve Waugh which colours his opinion whereas he doesn’t have a known beef against Tendulkar or a love child with Sidhu?

Not that I really care one way or t’other tbh. Unless he’s playing at home, Sidhu is likely out before Warne gets to bowl anyway
Didn't happen.

And it's not like Sidhu was a rabbit against fast bowling. Man has a double against West Indies.

Sidhu arguably not even in the top 5 Indian batsmen against spin, let alone better than Tendulkar. The guy snacked some good cameos, he wasn't some unstoppable beast, its the silliest thing.
Please refresh m y memory. Who werer the spinners who managed to stop him? I cannot recall ANY.

It’s not easy to objectively compare players from different eras. This is what makes it easier to try and compare Richards and Lara. For some like yours truly and other old foggies one could add Sobers.

Headley belongs to a different time. I do have an opinion but it is based on what I read not what I saw - in life or on film.

I would rate Sobers as the best batsman I ever saw with Richards at #3 and Lara as a very close third.

It’s true that I did not personally see anywhere near enough of Sir Garfield but I followed the game as a passionate youngster for more than a decade.

Were I to leave Sobers out it might be fairer then to say that Richards was the greatest right handed batsman I saw and Lara the greatest left-hander.

Must say, one of my favorite posts ever on CW, and interesting perspective from someone who saw all 3, and so many in-between..

I recall that you saw a little of Bradman, were you also privileged to have seen Headley bat?
No mate even before my time but check out his stats(I hate that) highest score 270* and an average of 60.83 proves he was no slouch

What I do like about Headley, is that that watching the few clips that exist, he wouldn't look out of place in the modern game. There was also an elegance about his stroke play.

I honestly feel that if Headley had played under similar conditions as the Don, we wouldn't even be having this debate. Give him the majority of his tests vs England at home and in England, mixed in with a few tests at home vs 30s India, South Africa and Australia . He'd be mid 60s imo after 50 tests or so.

Nah, Headley was fortunate to play some very average England teams. Great player and how he carried that team is incredible but I don't think that you can say that

No doubt Headley was good, but he faced a fair few second string attacks, didn’t he?

He did. Similar to Hammond though his post war efforts don’t do justice to his overall stats. 3 tests, a single one in each series at 39, 40 and 43 dragged his average down from 70 to 60.

Relatively speaking, none of the England attacks from that time were particularly exceptional. If you can show otherwise you're welcome to try. Fact is, George played what was put infront of him, and did play England at full strength a few times and succeeded. Add to this south africa and India of that time. No doubt he could've averaged mid 60s. Who would have stopped him?
