Not a bad XI, though I wouldn;t call it a T20 specialist lineup, just a group of decent domestic players and international propsects.

Please Lord can someone from the Under 19 play a big innings today. We need some hope, somewhere. It has been a bleak old few months of sub-standard batting.

I have this same optimistic view as well. Every day is a new day, we are not that dumb to repeat the mistakes of yesterday.
Doctor Shiv should instill some of his wisdom on them (especially the batsmen) to stay in the crease and rotate the strike.
Remember when he does be batting in ODIs and before you know it he’s already 40-odd just by rotating the strike?

Yep we just need common sense. I think Nandu is the most likely one to bat like that tbh. Teddy Bishop is a real talent but is very much a strokemaker.

Who should I watch out for in the U19s? Nandu and Teddy Bishop?
Matthew Nandu as a solid left handed opener dubbed 'mini Shiv' by Curtly Ambrose
Teddy Bishop and Akeem Auguste as middle order stroke-makers.
Rivaldo Clarke is also a good middle order batsmen who scored lots of runs in the trials but has gone off the boil slightly.
Isaiah Thorne as a fast bowler who also moves the ball.

Well, he’s got an opportunity today to see it through with the bat. Only 96 is needed.

Lets see how he goes…

T&T Trials Match. Khan XI defeated Pierre XI by 280 runs.

Imran Khan XI (1st Innings) - 301 all out.
Keagan Simmons 68
Imran Khan 66
Crystian Thurton 40
-
Kerwyn Sirju 3/45
Uthman Muhammad 2/17
Jason Mohammed 2/27

Khary Pierre XI (1st innings) - 137 All Out.
Daniel Williams 38
-
Bryan Charles 6/45

Imran Khan XI (2nd innings) - 197 All Out.
Leonardo Julien 31
Imran Khan 31
-
Jason Mohammed 4/16

Kharry Pierre XI (2nd innings) - 81 All Out
Yannic Cariah 25
-
Imran Khan 2/13

*Darren Bravo and Jayden Seales will miss the majority of the domestic season due to International duty.
Wow, more low scores…looked like the spinners had a fun time in this game…Imran khan, Jason Mohammed, Bryan Charles lol

Anyone with the potential to be special?

Well Auguste plays very special shots, but it remains to be seen if he can play special innings.

Bishop could be very good, he seems to have the best mix of talent and temperament.

Thorne is probably the most likely to be special. To be as quick as he is and swing the ball as prodigiously both ways at 17 is pretty special. I'd also say our recent track record of developing bowlers is a lot better than batsmen.

Thanks

And to be fair we haven't developed any batsmen since Sarwan.

Sad but true :(. Darren Bravo is the closest to that, but post 'big hidiot' gate his red ball batting has nosedived.

On a seperate note, how do we all feel about Phil Simmons as coach? I like Big Phil, but I have to say he hasn;t really had the impact I hoped, especially in the batting department.

Same for Monty Desai the batting coach. How much longer do we put up with them if things don;t improve?

It may seem overly simplistic, but think that white ball cricket has effected the WI more than any other country and all to our detriment. Batting coaches can only do so much when most batsmen seem to lack the temperament and ability to build innings.

It's a fair point. Personally I think pitches are one of if not the main cause. Rubbish pitches cause rubbish cricket and we have a generation of cricketers that have developed on sub standard surfaces.

So our Windies boys are playing a practice match against a Barbados Select XI (Ashley Nurse-led) currently...it's a T20 match.

Barbados batted first and made 131 for 6, with Walcott top-scoring with 33 off 25, Kyle Hope made 25 off 29, and Shamar Spring with an unbeaten 24 off 15.

Bowling for the Windies, Hayden Walsh Jr. took 2 for 28 off his 4 overs, while a wicket apiece for Akeal Hosein, Sheldon Cottrell, and Odean Smith. Fabien Allen bowled 3 overs for 14 runs.

The Windies boys are currently 117 for 3 in 13 overs. Brandon King made 32 off 13, his opening partner Kyle Mayers with 38 off 32. The skipper Pooran batting at number 3 made 27 off 21...

Some interesting young batting options but my impression is their bowling is weak compared to the other franchises.

Here's our Guyanese squad for the FC comp.

"The Guyana Harpy Eagles squad is: Leon Johnson (Captain), Keemo Paul (Vice Captain), Chandrapaul Hemraj, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Vishaul Singh, Askhaya Persaud, Anthony Bramble, Tevin Imlach, Veerasammy Permaul, Gudakesh Motie Nial Smith, Clinton Pestano, Shimron Hetmyer, Keon Joseph and Antony Adams."

The first match is on Feb 9th to 12th against the Windward Islands Volcanoes...

Hetmyer in the squad but not even a vice-captain capacity.
