Ashwin averages 10 points higher in TEST matches than Thakar does in FC cricket. What are we even talking about?
In 200 par type of games, guys who can introduce a lot of variance like Thakur by scoring quickly and taking the field out of the equation are more valuable as their output is less affected by external circumstances.

However, sending Ashwin in was still the right call as he was more likely to last longer to support Pant. Further, Thakur’s runs are less likely to be counterfeited from batting lower down the order by running out of partners due to his higher SR.

Whatever it takes!!!
Yeah poor from Ashwin. Esp. in SENA he should be told to put away some of his front foot shots and only play off the back foot. He is still gonna score runs at a decent enough clip but he has to give himself a chance of getting in. That was such a #8 shot and he has to do better if he wants to be the #7. Jadeja has his faults but he wont have played that bad a shot in such a situation. That is why Virat keeps going to Jadeja even though Ash is a better spinner.

I really hope that SA don't stick with Olivier for any decent length of time. Just need to get over it and move on, it is not like SA is lacking in fast bowling options.

think this has been Pant's most accomplished innings yet. Gabba may have been greater, but he rode his luck there every now and then. He's looked in almost complete control here and scored at a high rate without too many risks. Just high quality test match batting.

What innings are you watching? He has consistently played and missed and swung wild at anything outside of off. The bowling has been low on pace, poor lines and the field settings have allowed for shots over cover. This has been as lucky as any of his innings.

The lead however is becoming increasingly problematic for the saffers.

His style has changed so drastically that he isn't the Nortje type enforcer now. Is he competing with Ngidi? Hmm.

The problem here is that Norje was injured. When he's back, he should replace whoever this impostor Olivier is.

Not good from Thakur either. Neither him or Ashwin willing to grind it out. Pant has made batting look too easy lol.

SA chasing under 200 I reckon. We'll need to bowl really well again...

I'd be genuinely interested to see which (proper) series were more bowler-dominated than this one.
