can someone explain why pujara and rahane are still in the team esp for overseas tests? with an abundance of batting talent in first class in india, i would've thought their time is up. so many failures.

Sounds like new-age bull****, but good balls tend to follow you when you haven't done yourself many favors at other times.
if he's got technical issues then spell them out. Plenty of chat over the technical flaws of Pujara, Kohli, Pant, etc because they actually exist. Rahane's issues aren't technique. If they are, then it's something I haven't been able to spot.

And just look at the deliveries he's gotten out to this Test. How on Earth do you play them? Sometimes batters get good balls. Gotta give credit to SA for bowling brilliantly. They've been excellent all Test.

Been a very good start by Pant today. Needs to keep this up for a session please.

this is going to sound like a meme but I thought Pujara played really well yesterday in very difficult conditions when India could have collapsed. there's still value in a player like him in a brittle batting line-up, especially abroad.

Vihari should have been a part of the middle order for a while now, they just don't prefer him to Che/Rahane which is annoying.

Iyer making his overseas debut over here would have been a bit cruel, but he's definitely someone we need to blood in ASAP.

Really need Ranji Trophy to resume and have more red-ball India A tours. It's not clear at all who our next Test match middle order options are.

Never been a fan of watching Pant but these are the kind of games he does make a difference. May not get a big one but his 30s and 40s comes in super handy. With a technique like that it's hard to figure how he scores like he does but he's got all the shots though and when he goes for it he does hit em hard.

Rahane got an absolute pearler. I'm not sure how many would have coped with that ball any better. The bounce was so much it was well over the keeper's head. You get out to a ball like that, you change into training clothing quickly and say well bowled mate
yeah it was a real peach of a delivery, close to unplayable.

I think selectors should've taken the decision out of the immediate team's hands and sent Rahane/Pujara away to work on their issues an year or so ago. We could've blooded some youngsters in that time and had real depth in case Purane came back strong. They're both 34 now and damaged goods beyond repair...at least Rahane is, one feels.
