So the solution is to bring in young new fresh bowler (very happy about that) have him bat at 7? And ignore the problems in the batting? It is mind boggling when you really think about it...
Honestly any combination of Rabada,Nortje,Olivier,Ngidi,Jansen,Sipamla,Maharaj,Linde and Mulder would be a Test quality attack. But right now there is no one in this SA middle order who I believe you can look at and go "yep,he can get us a 150 if he gets in". So the solution is obviously decks with some juice where it is 200 vs 200 :wallbash:

It's things like this which really make me wonder what's going through the selectors' minds. They've got access to the same stats that we have, are watching the same matches that we are (or at least they should be watching them), and yet they come to completely different conclusions as to what the best way forward is.
The problem is they can't drop Bavuma or Elgar for obvious reasons. Markram is being shoehorned as an opener, and having selected VDD must give him an opportunity! Similar with Verryenne getting next in line shot. While we have genuine quality batsmen in players like Breetzke and van Tonder (and whole load others) waiting their chance? And lets not forget to drop the batting allrounder because Olivier must get his shot!

You can literally see the tick box selection happening... its why Jansen selection surprised me and why, even though I did not think he was ready, was happy with the selection. Lets see more of it please.

Bavuma is a very special case though, as a Protea fan we know he will always get a little extra leeway. It's just that his shortcoming is a lack of hundreds instead of looking out of his depth.

I like Bavuma visually as a player, looks compact and usually quite assured at the crease. But think it's time to pull the plug now even though he's had a reasonable series. Just gets out far too often between 20-40
Do they even have any alternatives? With Temba at least you know you would get those 30-50 sometimes very useful runs..

At worst you could call him a like for like Duminy replacement. Another pretty looking player who got out after getting starts.

Off topic but read article the other day where Kohli being asked about his current form before this game. He basically said he doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone and then proceeded to give example of so called master class from Pujara and Rahane in 2nd game.. He was basically implying how they proved the doubters wrong.

Translation: these two aren’t going anywhere just yet. They will get at least 2-3 more series and if they end up playing another masterclass in between, they would get more.

Gotta say that having seen saf bat against England and Pakistan even knowing how **** our batting is nowadays I expected an easier time of dismissing them. They seem in a better place than our lot temperamentally across the board.
Yeah, they've won me over. Few if any of their failings can be attributed to a lack of application.

I think Duminy had more of an ability to score you hundreds though. His batting was more rocks or diamonds. But he also could bowl so it helped his selection for a while.

He deserved his place for a few years after that 2009 Australian tour. Much like bavuma who also played a clutch innings or 2 in 2016. Agree though that the former had a higher ceiling.
