But opening and keeping seems like a huge ask. I don't see SA being that bold.
Agree SA won't be that bold... even though it would be great. But they have just picked an untested 21 seamer allrounder to bat 7? Why not a good aggressive in form batting/keeper to open?

SA love seamers. I don't think they know any other way. So picking a young seamer is natural to the selection panel. But actually backing young batsman and making logical selections is not always something they do.

And he isn't the worst right now. In fact, he's got the highest average of any South African batsman over the past two years.
Biggest issue is that he is obviously in form, looking good.... and still failing to score runs. That is criminal on a totally different level.

Whatever it takes!!!
I said it yesterday... we need our 6-8 to do FAR better than they did simply coz they had a well set Virat at the other end who was holding the end up. All they had to do was get themselves and commit if they were gonna play their strokes. All 3 got out to half assed attempts at strokes than actual shots. That is my issue with them.

Bowling has been good so far. First hour could have easily been 5 down for them but catches were dropped and/or fell short. Hours 2-3.5 seem to have been a grind but good to see that our bowlers can take that and still come back again and give them hell for the last 30 mins there.

Match is amazingly well poised going into the 6th session.

What's grim about it is that there have only been four centuries. The bowling is very definitely carrying the South African side at the moment.
So the solution is to bring in young new fresh bowler (very happy about that) have him bat at 7? And ignore the problems in the batting? It is mind boggling when you really think about it...

Gotta say that having seen saf bat against England and Pakistan even knowing how **** our batting is nowadays I expected an easier time of dismissing them. They seem in a better place than our lot temperamentally across the board.

It's things like this which really make me wonder what's going through the selectors' minds. They've got access to the same stats that we have, are watching the same matches that we are (or at least they should be watching them), and yet they come to completely different conclusions as to what the best way forward is.

Yeah but he will be available for the Sri Lanka series. And he actually has completed his isolation but I think it was a matter of one or two days and so they did not want him to travel just for 3 ODIs to be played over like 5 days or whatever.
They picked J Yadav as his replacement over Sai Kishore & Bishnoi Indian selectors at their best
