All time world test XI selection

Kallis at no.5 in this team will create an interesting dynamic as I assumed he would bat at no.6 and take the nominal all-rounders position. If he gets in at 5, what is the thinking - another all-rounder, or just another specialist bat (I had assumed Smith based on the previous voting) in a different order?

Ya a specialist batsman for sure .

Based on what happened when we selected the first XI, we can change the order of 5/6 later if need be. I do think having Kallis higher up the order would help though; he wasn't exactly an expert at batting with the tail.

Ambrose, hadlee, murali, another atg bowler, kallis,Hammond. This is enough bowling line up.A Steve smith/Headley would be my pick .Smith probably edges George headley.

Yeah, would tend to agree with you both - it will be interesting to see if Smith is still the favoured choice if he's going to be batting 5 or potentially even 6, or if we pick someone more experienced in those positions (Allan Border, come on down!).

I think even without Kallis the team wouldn't need an allrounder at 6. 4 ATG bowlers plus Hammond to fill in overs as fifth bowler should suffice. Not as if the likes of Murali and Hadlee aren't used to high workloads.

Steve Waugh will be a better option than Border at 6.

Should at least make the 3rd.
That's still crazy. He is, alongside McGrath, Marshall and Khan one of the greatest seam bowlers of all time. Add in his handy batting and I'd pick him above Marshall if I only had to select one.

I'd be curious to see what the votes were like. Anyway, cool experiment.

Steyn is a better bowler than Wasim, but a tail of Steyn, Ambrose and Murali is terribly weak.

Kallis is too great a player not to be in the team.

So it's:

Kallis
Wasim
