***Official*** India in South Africa 2021-22

I'd love South Africa to win this so we can have a decider, but India have an unerring ability to induce a collapse and capitalise on it, and I have very little faith in the South African line-up to resist it.

Its all about the first hour, cant lose to many wickets. None would be nice
First session. van der Dussen has dropped anchor, doing a good impression of Faf when he became strokeless, so, first hour may only result in 20-30 runs. South Africa are going to need more than just Elgar, they’ve been here before and that wasn’t enough. 4, 5 and 6 need to contribute. A Bavuma special may be enough in this instance.

So Rahane and Pujara done enough to save their place ? Their innings were in that grey area where they definitely helped their case without decisively answering doubts. Obviously a lot will depend on the outcome of the game and series.

Whatever it takes!!!
Going at 1 run an over and got a wicket. Bowling very well considering he really should be the weak link here given the conditions. Got 60+ runs in the game as well.
saltshakerz will find a way to say it didn't matter even if he gets a 7fer and wins us the game tomm.

I know Rahul isn't a great Captaincy material but gotta cut him some slack.. You can't do much when your top bowlers went missing. Bumrah completely stunk today. Although Rahul could have placed the fielders better there were a lot of drop n run singles by Elgar. Bowlers never got to work at him properly.

I'd say so. I know they both failed in the first innings, but in the context of this match, their second innings shouldn't give the selectors cause to drop them if they were happy to play them in the first place. They haven't done so well as to be safe if they fail again next test though imo

I think there's no point over-attributing blame. The most obvious reason we might lose is because Siraj was injured early in the test and it's very hard to do well against a side of similar strength when you are playing a bowler down for the entire match. This is especially true because it looks like we are going to be bowling for more than half of three consecutive days. That would have been a challenging workload management situation even if Siraj was there. Now it's a total nightmare. All the other problems with our bowling this test snowball from this fact.

Yeah I would not be upset if either or even both were dropped but they did score runs this test and fair is fair Rahane has had a good test series.

I did not see his dismissal today, but a little worried by what I have seen from Pant this series, obviously zero alternatives but he has to offer more with the bat.

Yeah I agree. Instead of 'conceding' a 27 run lead, India may have got a tiny lead themselves in 1st innings, if Siraj was fit. So Target may have been closer to 270-280 and far more defendable with 4 quicks, instead of 3 quicks & defending 240.

So you are right it has indeed been like a snowball effect.

Plus Bumrah's not been accurate in this innings. So just left with Thakur and Shami to pick up the slack...

Need to hope that Shami & Bumrah manage to keep themselves fit for next Test and get through it well, along with Umesh and Thakur. Really want these guys to all be fit and healthy for ONE FULL test please.

It's been hard, last test it was bumrah but luckily he recovered for 2nd innings to win the game. This time there hasn't been such miracle with Siraj.
