Cricket stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

What next? Captain to chop off his sausage if the team fails to meet the over rate? This is ridiculous, teams that rely mainly on pacers will have more issues coz of this.

as a general rule of thumb, I think punishments that can happen during the game are better, although this comes with the obvious case of "if the team has the game won before the 20th over, why would they care?"

it's funny that they refer to the Hundred's efforts to tackle this. T20 cricket in it's original form was all about this: http://www.cricketweb.net/forum/threads/the-twenty20-cup-in-england.3973/

Teams have one hour 15 minutes to bowl 20 overs. In the first innings, the calculation of the number of overs to be bowled shall be based on one over for every full 3.75 minutes in the total time available for play up to the scheduled close of play. In the second innings of the match, overs shall be reduced at a rate of one over for every full 3.75 minutes lost, unless the first innings finished early / second innings started early in which case no overs are lost until the time that has been gained is subsequently lost.

Over-Rate Penalties
The six-run penalty for each over not bowled will apply - all sides are expected to be in position to bowl the first ball of the last of their 20 overs within one hour 15 minutes playing time. In reduced over matches, the fielding side has one over's leeway in addition to any time that the Umpires may allow for stoppages.

Umpires are instructed to apply a strict interpretation of time-wasting by the batsman (five-run penalties). Specifically, batsmen are expected to be ready for the start of a new over as soon as the bowler is ready.

So now slow over rates arent just being punished with fines or bans but actually forcing a fielding team to change their fields? This seems like a pretty terrible move. What exactly does it accomplish?
Boomer commentators who feel the need to fill airtime might be slightly more likely to actually talk about the cricket.

Generally I'm against any penalty for slow overrate that can impact the outcome of a game. I don't feel you should be able to win/lose a game due to overs not being bowled in time.

The problem with T20Is is they are mostly meangingless and there isn't a global points table you can take away points from. There are global rankings, but i can't fathom how you'd work in slow overrate penalties into that algorithm.

I think this rule also puts more pressure on the umpires to force the pace of play. When the penalties occur after the game the umpires may be more willing to let things slip, knowing they can do the paperwork later. But if they need to tell the fielding team captain in the heat of the game that they're losing a boundary fielder...I wouldn't want to be in that situation lol. I'd be doing everything on my end to make sure we avoid that.

I love how aware Ashwin is as a batsman. Despite scoring 5 tons, he knows he doesn't have the technique to occupy the crease and build an innings like the top 6-7 batters so he simply tries to counter attack the bowlers and makes the most of the scoring opportunities. Bowlers who can bat start taking their batting too seriously and try to score like proper batsmen or just throw their bat at everything. I find Ashwin's calculated counter-attack much more productive.

Just copy pasting my post from a different thread as it belongs here:

Alfred Absolem(who sounds like a grandfather figure according to @Aritro) had taken a 7-fer in an ICL T20 game(IPL rival). Also, it was as good as any IPL bowling performance since 5 out of those 7 batsmen had played international cricket:

Damien Martyn
Wavell Hinds
Murray Goodwin
Heath Streak
Reetinder Singh Sodhi

Funny memory of my childhood was Steve Waugh on a tour of India, a spinner through the ball at him and he caught it and threw it back at the bowler. I think it was only in a tour game but it made the news highlights

Whatever it takes!!!
This is the reason why I find the whole "Smith wont have known about sandpaper" defense weak af. This is the environment he grew up in. Waugh's side were awful in behaviour but at least they could be nice coz they got so bored of winning with that ATG side. Ponting just thought it was his birthright to be nasty and cried like cowards (all bullies are) when it was given back to them. Clarke and Lehmann thought it was this behaviour that made them an ATG side, not the host of talented cricketers. You can draw a straight line to how Steve Smith ran his team as a captain from all this. And its funny how CA get to hand out punishments having been the biggest enablers of all this.
