In Before the Knighthood: A Thread for Shimron Hetmeyer

Salamuddin

International Debutant
Hety failed his third fitness test in 18 months to rule himself out of the white ball squads for the Ireland and England matches in January.

He will miraculously be fit again in time for the IPL. He is 25 so still has time, but it looks like yet another West Indian talent may well be wasted.
When I first saw Hetmyer in the 2016 u19 World Cup he reminded me a bit of Richie Richardson who was my favourite batsman growing up.

suffice to say Shimron has been a rather big disappointment since and is shaping up to be the biggest wasted batting talent since hooper and arthurton.
I hope he turns it around but i Don’t Have great hopes.

Really. You're telling me Hetmyer can fail a fitness test for International matches that Cornwall can pass.

How much of a slob is this wasteman
So the board selection policy allows for medical exemptions. We know that Gayle and Cornwall received exemptions recently but don't know exactly what for.

The fitness test is a blip/yoyo test. The West Indian minimum standard is roughly the same as India and Pakistan but slightly below England's.

Either way, to fail to reach minimum standards 3 times in a relatively short period of time indicates Hety is not serious.

His ODI record is excellent, but other than that he has underachieved massively I agree. I really hope he sorts himself out.

I personally don't see what everyone else seems to see in him. He has a good eye and I think is a fine limited overs player. But for test cricket the batsman I see has very limited shots against pace and a main MO of slogging spinners. He lacks defence and hits the ball in the air remarkable amount even for an era where it is no longer frowned upon. He has a big touch of the Mitchell Marshes, and while if he can get more organised technically he could succeed in tests that is not the batsmen I have seen to date.

Look forward to him and Bravo bossing teams around the world with huge partnerships.
I know there were issues with the board but Bravo was such an idiot to chase franchise money while still developing.

It’s something that has become quite apparent to me but without building a technique through the foundations of longer form cricket you’ll have nothing to fall back on when your eye eventually fades as you get older

hetmyer would be wise to learn similar lessons
