***Official*** Bangladesh in NZ 2021-22

Cricketer Of The Year
He played less than 20 Tests in the modern era. Thats equates to 2 to 3 of playing time.

Southee and Boult will end up playing at least 5 times as much and have done a great job in making nz one of the elite sides!
that said, Shane Bond was an absolute legend!

I feel like the top 5 are a lock

Turner
Wright
Williamson
Crowe
Taylor

Who bats 6 depends on what balance you want for the side - an all rounder for example. Or are you just assembling the best top 6 you could without considering having to bowl? In which case it could be any of Fleming, Jones etc - or do you ask an opener like Sutcliffe or Richardson to bat 6?
Wright isn't a lock.
Fleming or Jones couldn't bat 6. If don't want an all rounder at 6 pick a 6 or a natural 5 (Ryder , Nicholls, Coney, or Astle) there

Shane Bond strolls in. His talent level is so far above Southee and Boult he is impossible to leave out. If he dies, he dies.

And this has been a grim day for NZ. Bangladesh definitely won today, and have laid a great platform to draw overall parity tomorrow.

Yes indeed, but to be considered for the ATG XI, you have to have played for a reasonable no. of years in the national side.
His first test was 2001 and his last 2009. That whole time he was one of the first 3 or 4 picked when available. Bond is a NZ great.

Barry Richards is one of the top half dozen openers of all time and he only played one series.

Hot take but Bond played 14 tests against top 8 sides and has only very good but not quite ATG results in those tests. He had epic results in 4 tests against Zim/BD at a very dim era for both sides.

Jamieson has played 10 tests and has already achieved more in live tests than Bond imo.

I will add that I have no doubt that Bond was clearly world class based on the eye test and his ATG LO exploits and would have excelled in test cricket if he could play more tests. However, his reputation in tests is based more on ‘common sense’ than actual achievements imo and considering NZ has had several excellent pacers with tons of wickets, I don’t think Bond warrants a place in an ATG XI.

Such a huge difference in the average bangladesh batsman these days compared to one in the 2000s. They used to have techniques which were very obviously not even up to first class standard in most cases. These two arent world beaters but atleast you can look at them and not immediately think they shouldnt be playing the format.

Bond played 18 tests and averaged 26 against non BD and Zimbabwe opposition.. I think even Wagner’s ahead of him tbh.

He was a freak but he didn’t get to showcase it. It is what it is.
We currently have the best quartet we've ever had, and some wickets come just as much from your support as it does from your own abilities.

Bond's best support was Cairns, Vettori and a young Franklin. Other than that it was the solid but unremarkable workhorse in Martin, Tuffey, a pre-good-O'Brien, and an also ran list of forgettable seamers like Brent Arnel.

I was about to say this effort from Bangladesh has shades of the 1-150 efforts from NZ in India on their last two tours of there, and then comes the wicket.

Gonna be all out less than our score easily.

They still randomly pop up sometimes. Saif Hassan played six Tests recently and somehow averages 40 in FC cricket despite looking like he wouldn't be fit to oil Rajin Saleh's bat.
