Picking the same XI again is okay but I just feel it is neither there or here.

You have to pick the lineup based on conditions and J’burg conditions wud suggest 4 proper fast bowlers. Last game, there were 3 bowlers who could take a bag of wickets, this game I’d want to see 4 such bowlers. Thakur isn’t one but is handy and Ashwin isn’t one because of conditions in highveld but he can brought back for Cape Town.

Is Boom Boom gonna be fit? He is also made VC of the ODI side, so I hope he does not have to play every game.

I think the idea of resting Shami and dropping Umesh was to have them ready for the home tests against SL. Bumrah may be rested for those games.

Play him in final ODI in Newlands & rest him for first 2 ODIs seems fine. Siraj has to play there.

Chahar can bat, and is a better bowler than Shardul, but not sure if he can randomly pick wickets like Shardul with the older ball. Will be interesting if he gets picked though.

Someday - people will look at statsguru and say Ashwin bowled a brilliant 2/17 in the second inning at Centurion.

anyway, unless the pitch is an extreme green mamba you go with shardul and ashwin

I watched another documentary about Aus-SA test series 1997/98 in which after winning 2nd test , Mark Taylor says that anyone who thinks Test cricket is dead is a fraud. So are people predicting about demise of Test cricket from 1990s ?

But the fact remains countries are playing less and less no. of games. Apart from big 3, other teams would play a game or two just as a formality. There is a reason why teams like NZ and SA are barely playing any test these days.

There is a difference between predicting and it actually happening in front of us.

Teams are also playing less cricket due to Covid cancellation.
