ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the year

The 4 finalists are

Ashwin
Jamieson
Karunaratne
Root

Voting is a mixture of votes from experts and the general public. As the public (including the Indian public) can vote on this I expect Ashwin to romp to victory.

I think Ashwin shouldn't even have made the shortlist alone win the award (basic eligibility should dictate that you at least have to be picked when available for every game). It should be Root with daylight a very distant second.

Root has played 15 matches - as many as Ashwin (8) and Karunaratne (7) combined, and three times as many as Jamieson (5).

Ridiculous.

Yeah this year is weird and would have been hard to pick had it not been so obvious. I don't think any Australian players should be eligible for example.

But it is obvious, so it doesn't matter.

Joe Root in 2021 by opponent

Sri Lanka, 2 matches, 426 runs @ 106.50
India, 8 matches, 932 runs @ 66.57
Australia, 3 matches, 253 runs @ 42.16
New Zealand, 2 matches, 97 runs @ 24.25

I would call that Asian bashing, but he comes from Yorkshire and people might get the wrong idea.

And most of those 15 matches have been losses. Root easily in a very average year.

I seem to remember cricket australia doing a GOAT ODI player knockout tournament a few years ago and Sangakkara won courtesy some very dedicated lankan voters.
