Favourite Ross moments:

- hundred against Sri Lanka where he ****ed himself up so much he had to go on a drip
- getting ready to fight Faf di Plessis in the 2011 World Cup quarter final
- being extremely mad about being dropped as captain and leading the team to an overseas series (?) win anyway
- calling for a review while walking back to the pavilion and not even sticking around to see the decision

Also that summer (2014) when he absolutely carved up the Windies and we finally won a series again. The year before England had escaped with a 0-0 draw and when rain and Darren Bravo robbed us in the 1st test I was wondering if/when we'd ever win again.

I'd imagine this was the case, 100%. And champions have to go out some time - a lot of NZ posters previously said he had earned the right to call when he retired, and I disagreed. No player is bigger than the overall interests of the team. And we now (presuming Kane is fit) have guys like Conway, Young etc who will play for the next 4-5 years + who are good to go now, probably on a par if not more in terms of Ross in terms of probable run output and obviously have a future in front of them.

None of this should ever detract from the fact Ross Taylor is a bonafide NZ legend and I have enjoyed the **** out of his career. My favourite was the Manchester ton in 2008, closely followed by the insane ODI ton to beat England in Dunedin on one leg. Classy guy, hell of a batsman, leaves a massive legacy.

Given Kane is out for the Bangladesh series, but returns for South Africa, that rings true. But, man, what a legend Ross is. Such a magnificent player for such a long period of time.

An absolute legend. Seems like a very good bloke from all accounts.

For me, his 200 in Australia and his knock in the WTC finals will be the highlights, and also his excellent batting and captaincy leading to a win in SL I think. I also remember the time when he was the only modern batsman in RCB and trying to keep them alive on his own in one season, may have been the very first one.
