going at 3 an over has looked uncomplicated so far. maybe upping it to 4 an over wouldn't be an issue with pant and ash yet to bat after this pair.
They were going at 4.5 maybe early on in session 3 the other day so doable. Try to smack around a bit with the expected weather conditions. It's unlikely South Africa will post up a huge total anyway.

We might lost half of Day 5. So we have around 240 overs left.

Day 3: 98
Day 4: 98
Day 5: 40-50

On Day 3, bat 60 overs and get as close to 500 as possible. Bowl South Africa out in 90 overs, enforce follow on, bowl them out again 80-90 overs.

If India bats again, pretty much game over.
No point to go as far as 500.. 420-30 should be enough. We need just Enough to enforce a follow on. If Saffers score 300 or close to it then it's a draw anyways. So 500 is out of the question. It's a shame that Day 5 will likely be curtailed so only India can conjure up a win by being bold.

I really hope Kohli goes for it - he has the balls to. Dhoni never did.

I think they will go for it 100% only question is how quick they will score those runs. I will be very surprised if he doesn't declares at 2nd session tomorrow. Pant Thakur & Ash are yet to come & we know Rahul & Rahane are all capable to score quick. These highveld venues are conducive to fast run scoring rather than in England & Australia

Other option is to bat just the morning session tomorrow, get to 400 declare. Bowl SA out in a day (250-270). Bat again for around 30-40 overs, set 320+. Have minimum 75+ overs to bowl SA out again.

So its possible either way, but batting again takes out some time.

I don't think they will declare until at least 450 tbh. That will take half the day, then bowl SA out under 250 to enforce follow on.

after Lords, I am sure the team strongly believes that they can bowl sides out in 2-2.5 sessions in the final innings.

Whatever it takes!!!
Yeah they will take decisions based on how things go in that first session. Can't look too far ahead.

Remember day 1 had 70% rain forecast too and we got full day's play. Cud be the same on day 5 too.

uh thats not how the follow on rule works

if we declare at 400, sa has to be bowled out for less than 200 to enforce follow on

Hmm since I've been on CW this is the first time I've seen so many people totally disregard the Proteas at home like this. Yes this is probably the weakest team since readmission, especially the batting, but there are some Test quality batsman in there.

I think it’s partly optimism hoping this test has a result somehow with limited playtime left rather than petering to a boring rain affected draw.

Of course there are some good talented blokes in there but surely we all expected the bowling to be a bigger threat than their batting. Now with India likely to have some decent score on board in 1st inns we can expect the not so strong batting unit to be under serious pressure against some in form bowlers. That being said there lies a lot of unknown as well.. Maybe someone in SA line up will raise their game & show some fight there. Elgar Markaram RvD are capable enough to do that.

They've well earned their reputation as an easy beat team. Sri Lanka beat them in their own backyard

Nortje and Oliver not playing is a shame. Are they ruled out of whole series or there is hope for two games?

Nortje is ruled out and apparently went for scans as well. Olivier seems to have been rested due to having Covid after effects, though people (in CSA) weren't saying that at the start leading people to believe he was fit and just not picked.
