Tell us about Hanson. Is he good? Could he be great? Should I watch his career with great interest?

Right decision by Team management to play 5 bowlers on this pitch. We really need Ashwin to fire on this pitch

I think Siraj will fire here. I think this is the sort of slow, spongy bouncing, seaming wicket where he will thrive.

Pitch ain't slow it will quicken up later on.. Might offer decent turn as well on day 4/5. I thought Centurion pitch back in 2018 series was more flat but sorta quickened up & India just collapsed in 4th inns.

India can easily make 650 plus here and they should. Anything other than an innings win should be a disappointment for them

Mate India isn't winning this match as Day 2 is going to be a washout. See the odds, they are only paying 1/2 for a draw. Draw written all over this match mainly because of the weather (and perhaps also the flatish nature of the pitch).

There's just about 8 sessions left in the match!! We are losing whole of day 2 and at least the last session and a bit on day 5, if not more.

When India resumes batting on Day 3, they have two sessions to try and get close to 480-500. This will leave them with 5-6 sessions for bowling south africa out twice and would need to enforce the follow on!! Without the follow on, it'll be a draw as it will leave small amount of time for 4th innings.

Yes, the rain is not ideal. Shame as it is rare to see India get such a good start with the bat and we all know how good the bowling is (particularly with five bowlers in these conditions).

Rain has always hurt India more than it has ever helped.

India in NZ 2009 last test
India in Aus 2018/19 last test
India in England this year 1st test
India vs Aus at home 2004 -must win 3rd Test

Only time I recall it helping India was 2007 in England 1st Test.

It has hurt India significantly more.

Great first day for India. I was planning to watch a lot but went to bed at lunch. How did the tall left armer go on debut?
