In the 2017/18 series, if there hadn't been even one of Philander or ABDV, India 'probably' would've won 2-1 instead of losing 2-1.

It was close and ABDV made vital series changing contributions and so did Philander, as a gun bowling all-rounder.
If my aunty had balls she would be my uncle, so mulder and de kock to be the difference then :) this time.

Philander didn't do much with the bat during that series. His batting average was actually lower than his bowling average.
just three 20-30 run contributions, which isn’t bad considering how low scoring it was.

Kohli 286 runs
ABDV 211 runs (scored his runs in the first 2 tests)
Elgar 207 runs
Amla 203 runs
Faf. 183 runs (same as Abdv)
Mkram 140 runs

Pandya 119 runs
Vijay 102 runs
Kumar 101 runs
Pujara 100 runs
Philander 94 runs
Ashwin 90 runs
Rohit 78 runs

D Kock 71 runs

Crazy how all the top scorers are South African batsmen. Indian batsmen only managed to get around 100 runs or lessss in the entire series.

Bowling attack still strong, maybe less experience only.
Hmmm, so not much difference in attack, especially in terms of potential.

Rabada = Rabada
Ngidi = Ngidi
Olivier = Morkel
Mulder almost = Philander

(Mulder’s strike rate is 40 in FC, Philander‘s is 50)

Totally disagree with SA batsmen being unproven.

Elgar, Makram and De Kock are the big three (Amla, ABDV and Faf) this time.

Batting-
2021 vs 2017

Elgar = Elgar
Markram > newcomer Markram
Peterson < Amla
Dussen < ABDV
Bavuma < Faf
De Kock > 71 run De Kock
Mulder > Philander
Maharaj = Maharaj

Middle order is worse but the likes of Markram and De Kock could step up this time to make up for that. De Kock is actually due for a big one. I suspect South Africa’s lower order may do well. De Kock, Mulder, Maharaj and Rabada.

When you are playing at home, you usually only need couple of batsmen and the lower order to perform, and that’s often enough in a ‘low scoring’ encounter. No one knows this better than India!!! How many times has India been bailed out by Pant, Ashwin and Jadeja.

So South Africa don’t even need their middle order as long as De Kock and the lower order get runs.

1-2 batsmen stepping up + lower order getting runs may be enough in a 180 v 180 match.

And in low scoring games the gap between teams always narrows. So it comes down to the few individuals who manage to succeed.

Basically despite India feeling confident about winning this series, it‘s still only 55-45 in India’s favour. Could go 2-1 either way tbh.

Mulder meant to be a batting allrounder also bats 5 at franchise level or fc level now.

It's time Mulder shows he a batting alrounder.

Marco Jansen is tall af :eek: 6’8. And Left Arm. And Fast.

He is as tall as Kyle Jamieson, India’s No1 Tormentor in the last 2 yrs.

Unleash him in the 2nd Test in Johannesburg and watch him take a 5-fer.

I hope the weather doesn't screw up the series and it ends as 1-1.

If one test is ruined by weather, its gonna be hard for either side to get 2-0 in the other two games.
