2nd Test at Adelaide - 16 to 20 Dec

England's bowlers bowled some good deliveries that beat the bat but overall lacked zip too often and a few were down on pace too. Not sure if that is down to fatigue/injury.
Obviously you have to wait until both teams bat/bowl on the same pitch but the same issues we saw in the India series were evident here in that sans Archer and sometimes Jimmy the attack is a bit samey and can't take the pitch out of the equation if needed. They shouldn't have panicked and dropped Leach for this game as this pitch is perhaps the best one for spinners in Australia apart from it not hurting the overrate.

@JBMAC would appreciate your thoughts on Buttler’s keeping technique, including how late he is into his crouch before the ball is bowled, and what blokes can do to work on their footwork please
There was a bit of chat about it in the tour thread when Pakistan toured England last year. Difference between him and Rizwan is night and day, especially to spin.

Something something Yorkshireman captain and whitewashes. If I hadn’t been watching cricket in the middle of the night I’d be able to make it work.

So it goes Hutton, Boycott and now possibly Root? Was it a blessing in disguise that Vaughan never captained here?

Jos Buttler will hit a century in one of the innings to seal his spot.

He is the best wicketkeeper batsman in Eng, Foakes is a specialist wicketkeeper and specialist wicketkeepers do not belong in international cricket.

Foakes has a better fc average then buttler but carry on chief.

Leaving aside what Uppercut's already said about this, I feel obliged to point out that Boycott never captained England in Australia (apart, maybe, from the occasional tour match). Illingworth's the man you're thinking of. Along with Hutton, the only English captains to reclaim the Ashes in Australia since Bodyline. Root otoh, will probably hold the record for the most ashes tests lost as captain by the end of the series. Not entirely his fault that we're so shite tbf.

Has Butler ever been good in tests? I'm not trying to degrade him just genuinely don't know because every time i watch him play test cricket, he seems to struggle. It doesn't really surprise me either because his technique does not look all that good around the off stump. Great LO player though and maybe that's how he should play. Try be super aggressive like Pant

Has Stokes ever bowled spin in a match? I'm sure I read that he bowls offies in the nets and rags them square.

England have taken this squad rotation business way too far and tied themselves up in knots. These people are professional sportsmen, they are among the fittest individuals on the planet. It's ridiculous that we 'saved' our two most experienced bowlers for the second Test. Can't imagine Australia were planning to do the same.
India saved their best bowlers for the last test early 2021 to be fair.

Not consistently. There have been occasional exceptions such as the first test against Pakistan last year, but they have been rarities. Most the time, he's batted about as well as you'd expect Foakes to do, whilst obviously not being nearly as good behind the stumps.

Batting at no. 7 with his approach, Foakes won't be able to contribute much even if he is a good bat (considering England's weak top order)

You need a batsman who can play counterattacking innings like Buttler at no. 7.
Also Buttler hasn't realised his potential in tests yet, his peak is way above Foakes, England need to stick with him.

We all saw what happened last time at MCG, Pant dropped 3 catches and critics were calling for his head, rest is history.

Buttler is currently -74 before he starts batting as of now, Marnus will let him know each further run he gets.
