Wasn't that Gabba pitch one of the flattest of all time after Day 1, when it was still pretty decent to bat on?

Yes it was, but the bowling was decent on day 1. All the other pitches have been drier since. 11/12 against NZ wasn't too bad though, but so far this looks more favourable than that.

That said batting first wouldn't matter if England weren't ****. I probably would have.

Good nut that, no real blame on Root for that one.

Really well bowled. Kept him on the crease then pitched it just a touch fuller to catch the edge. The bloke is a terrific bowler these days.
