An Orderly Test Draft

I would also like some sort of additional gimmick to make it tighter if possible. The first 4 blokes in Round 1 have an obvious advantage
True. But only in Round 1. Everyone has the chance to have a a top 2 pick at some stage. Early picks of all-rounders, spinners. fast bowlers are just as advantageous IMO.

In fairness to all, I should advise in advance the penalty if you pick Bradman (after all, I know.)

If you pick Bradman in Round 3 or Round 4, you are relegated to last place in Rounds 5,6,7 and 8. Worse still, you can't pick your pace attack (Rounds 9-11) until all others have completed their 3 selections.

Am I forced to pick an allrounder at 6 or can it be a specialist batsman?
This is where participants select their all-rounder who will be their 5th bowler. They may or may not bat at 6 - depending on remaining selections. However, you may well have selected an allrounder (eg W.Hammond who qualifies as a #3 or #4) in this case you may pick a specialist bat at #6 BUT they must have played 25% or the majority of their innings in that spot.

Can we have a quick refresher of the final rules as a post here @Line and Length ?
This Draft has participants selecting their team in batting order, though the bowlers can be adjusted in the batting order when naming the final team.

Rounds 1 and 2 participants select their openers.

Rounds 3 and 4 participants select their number 3 and 4 bats. (First chosen doesn’t have to bat at 3)

Rounds 5 and 6 participants select a batsman and an all-rounder. (You may pick the allrounder first, but number 5 must bat there)

Rounds 7 and 8 participants select a wicketkeeper and a spinner. (Batting order flexible after 1-5)

Rounds 9, 10 and 11 participants select either 3 pace bowlers or 2 pace bowlers and another spinner.

When picking batsmen for positions 1-5 the player must have played at least 25% of their innings in that position OR the majority of their innings in that position.
The batting order for positions 6-11 can be made after draft is completed (eg your wicketkeeper may have a better batting average than your all-rounder so you might bat him at 6).

Bradman IS available BUT there is a HUGE penalty to pay in the later draft order.
