That first ball of Jamieson's new spell was better than anything he bowled in the opening hour.

EDIT: But then he strays down leg again. Sigh.

Yeah, the problem for NZ will be that this is a pitch where all bowlers seem dangerous. Fast bowlers with the swing and uneven bounce. Spinners with turn and uneven bounce. There is also the fact that pitch itself seems a bit two paced off certain lengths which means strokeplay can be a nightmare, esp. for non SC batsmen. NZ always fight hard and they expect them to do the same here too, but I wont be surprised if they are bundled out very quickly and cheaply here.

You got to have some luck to bat long on this pitch. Some will keep low invariably, longer you bat more the chances. Looks like playing spin is easier than pace given the variable bounce.

It's a low slow pitch that is terrible for pace bowlers. Tim Southee and Kyle Jamieson are just very good bowlers, and our spinners are relatively poor.

There's turn on offer but pretty slow turn, Ajaz and Somerville didn't quite adapt though they each had their moments. It's probably all India's spinners need though, plus the variable bounce.

lol... Uneven bounce, uneven pace and loads of swing and reverse swing. This is as good as it gets for seamers in India mate, perhaps as good as it gets anywhere in SC.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I'm seeing small amounts of swing and small amounts of reverse swing.

Have seen the ball swing around corners, particularly in SL but also some tests in India too. I don't think this is one of those pitches.

Just like turn, you dont need a LOT of it for swing and reverse swing to be effective. They are good bowlers who have bowled very well, but make no mistake, these are as good as it gets in terms of conditions for seamers in India and even in the SC overall.

The point about this pitch is that there is gonna be challenges from any kind of bowlers if they bowl well. That means it could be one of those tracks where you are never in, esp. with tests having these built in breaks in play, meaning you have to start over even if you are batting well for a session.

Haven't seen a single ball of this Test yet unfortunately, but is it the case of, ignore pitch conditions and just select your best bowling lineup. Even if that means playing with only a part time spinner, or no spinners at all?

Wondering if India trolled the Kiwis with the pitch conditions or if the spin attack has just been relatively quite poor compared to how Southee and Jamison have bowled.

Ishant and Umesh move it in to the right handers and the uneven bounce will fetch a few lbw and bowled dismissals. Axar will do well as will jaddu. Ashwin will be our bowler who'll have to work hardest.

Ishant has lost a lot of pace in last year or so.. Siraj might have been more effective. Umesh is just a beast in India. He won't be easy to negotiate here.
