Whatever it takes!!!
Always thought Shreyas would do well in long formats too. There is a chance he can be a Raina but I feel he can be a Ganguly. In tests, you can actually bend down and get out of the way of short balls for as long as you want unlike LO cricket where you are forced to score off them.

It is not a natural shot for him but it does not mean he cannot figure out a way to face it. The talent is there and if he does the hard work, I am sure he will find a way to survive and make runs even overseas.

Harsh that Iyer probably won't play the next test , but I can't see how he is accommodated with Kohli back.

Still early days in the series, it's only been a day. If the pitch stays like this our experienced batting line up will do the job as well. If it changes drastically and India get over 350 it's going to be a hard yard. Hopefully grab couple of wickets in the morning and put some pressure back.

Plenty rests on Ajaz today. At some point in time he's certain to make an impact. I guess not having played any cricket in the recent months hasn't help find the rhythm.

I do want to scroll back. But I assume the Perth comparison have been made? Lose toss, then lose a bowler.

I think it's easy for us to fall back into our usual pessimism but we've still got a relatively new ball and Jamieson will have fresh legs, Southee might be feeling better - our hope is to restrict to 350 but some scintillating bowling could see us knock them over for 300.

Would be good if the spinners really put on some tight, tight pressure. Whenever you see SC spinners bowling in tandem it is both excellent bowling but psychological energy that makes it feel like any ball could be a wicket, something Ajaz et al could try.

The way I saw it, the pitch was flat as a biscuit and Jamieson aside, struggled to get anything out of it. Southee actually bowled pretty well I thought, especially to get Pujara out on a flat one.

Patel was always going to struggle as a shortish guy on a pitch not yielding a lot of bounce or turn, although yeah his pitch map was less consistent than he'd like. Rust, no doubt. Thought Somerville was OK, and Rachin actually showed a bit of promise and ability to string decent balls together.

At 140-4 we'd done a great job, and India kicked on from there. I thought, all things considered, it was a decent effort. Obviously a big disadvantage to lose the toss, and that's only going to become more apparent later in the game when Ashwin, Jadeja and Axar get to work us over as the pitch starts to turn (and potentially become uneven and/or bounce). Massive impetus on us to score big in the first innings.

I thought we bowled quite well yesterday. Jamieson was outstanding.

Still - 2 wickets short of it being an even day imo especially with the pitch likely to break up later.

Low and slow. A bit of turn, but other than a couple from Ajaz and Ravindra, nothing drastic yet - though give it another few days and it will be. Very slow turn at the moment though, they were able to play good length balls off the back foot quite a lot.

Yeah nz need to get on it for a bat now. Its going to be a real problem child late day 2 imo. Need to give the bowlers a platform to slog from when the middle order collapses after tea.

More than the turn it's the variable bounce that'll get them out. Still will be fine for slowish batting. Till both teams bat is hard to say how the pitch is.

If it gets a bit boring there's Finn Allen to spice it up in super smash.
