*Official* Yorkshire CCC racism crisis thread

If you’re of the belief that kids in general of all backgrounds share the same interests & physical traits then you are divorced from reality

That’s not racist or some right wing trope & it doesn’t make one better than the other

It’s just life
So you think choice of sport is born of racial determinism.

Give your head a shake.

Hang on a minute, even Ravi Shastri said on comms a few years ago that you can't just give an Indian fella a steak and it'll turn him into an Alpha Aussie fast bowler.

Precisely! There needs to be graph made up which can predict the point at which Kohli's batting average and Siddle's bowling average will intersect on their respective journeys towards vegetable-riddled mediocrity.

One of my twins is vegan, to make matters even more complicated her twin sister is vegetarian.

Cooking dinner is a right bloody faff now. So for once you are spot on.
Tell them to hunt their own vegetables

I could go on about certain sports are more popular in certain countries and communities due to colonialism and to representation and identification (which is why representation its important - kids have heroes) but I'm posting from my phone and tbh I don't think you're really worth the effort.

The fact you think it's okay for people to have the same thoughts as Vaughan because England isn't so 'English' anymore speaks volumes to me.
lol

Once again, it’s possible to discuss demographic changes without being racist

50% of the residents in my street are of Asian descent and relatively new to the area

That’s an observation on how the area has changed

I couldn’t give a flying **** so long as they’re decent people & the same would apply whether they were white, black, green or extra terrestrial lizard beings

That’s an opinion

See how easy it is

Vaughan tweets stuff hoping for a reaction

The comments he made in the dressing room don’t appear to me to be a dog whistle when read in conjunction with his book

Feel your pain

Had lunch recently with a vegan, non drinker in Bundaberg

Bundy is the beef & rum capital of Australia and I had to sit through rabbit food & sparkling water

Vaughan being an asshat racist is hardly something questionable going by his recorded behaviour. Don't know why people want to try and defend him, the 05 Ashes don't give anyone perfect immunity to backlash.

If you think Vaughan was innocently making a neutral take on a statistical change then you're either naive or willfully ignorant. Which is backed up by the fact you think what is essentially a PR money making exercise in releasing a book cancels out what seems to be his true feelings made in the comfort of a cricketing clique at a racist club.

When you are tweeting stuff that is inclined towards racism but then claim it was just to get reaction or attention that's worse than being outright racist. An apt example of the wrong toy (twitter) falling in the hands of a low IQ guy.
Nobody can accuse Vaughan of being smart

All he had to do was issue a pr statement (“cannot remember but if I did and it caused offence then that was never my intention & I apologise unreservedly to all concerned blah blah blah)

Cricket starts & news cycle moves on

Now do Root, who not only shared a dressing room but a house with Ballance

From my personal experiences and observations, I tend to align myself with many of Social's comments. When teaching I found the majority of Asian students pursued academia rather than sporting activities. This was very evident on visits to the local library. The majority of the those in the library were young Asians in what appeared to be study groups while, looking out the window one could see that the majority of those playing sport on the adjacent oval appeared to be of Anglo Saxon decent.
Much of this I would attribute to parental pressure as Asian parents seemed to (and I'm generalising here) have higher expectations in terms of academic achievement.
Is making these generalisations a racist trait?
Gnske seems to think it is wrong to link sporting prowess with physiological attributes. Given that I consider the highest achieving sprinters in athletics to be Afro-American (West African to be specific) and I'm including the Caribbean nations here, and that I consider the best long distance runners to be of East African origin, and that I note the best swimmers appear to be generally white then I am indeed guilty of racist comments/observations - even though I admire the physical attributes of all aforementioned groups just as admire the way Asian students apply themselves to academic studies.

This is one of the classical stereotypes that don't hold muster on a racial scale. The question becomes are people who are willing to give up the life they know, to move to a more hostile social environment just to try create a better life for their kids, more likely, in general, to be tougher parents on many levels. That does not make it a racial thing. That's about determination. Many people head overseas and head back home quickly because it was to much of a change for them. People don't like change, people given a choice largely stay put throughout their life. Of course then as an outsider when you see so many people of a certain racial group behave in a certain manner you start attributing that behavior to that racial group, rather than considering the specifics of the people themselves. This is how racial profiling comes about (and fails under scrutiny) because as people it is easy to look for the simple factors like skin colour to correlate observed behavior. Negative or positive.
