His take was flat out ignorant in the usual Peterson way. He's on a show discussing this specific case and keeps saying "Yeah but who was racist? Who and how? Who? It needs to be specific" When if he'd bothered to spend about 90 seconds looking at the past week he'd have known it's been very specific and names have been named.I quite liked his take, to be honest. It isn't productive to abstract and intellectualise this (irony I know of JBP saying this in the most complicated way possible) - bad behaviour should be punished and made clear to be unacceptable in the specific cases in which it occurs. To say that the bad behaviour happened because they were within the Yorkshire cricket structure / culture isn't helpful here. I think what JBP is saying is that discussions of structural racism etc obscure from "who did the racism" and "how will they be punished". It allows bad actors to slip through the net. Abstract statements like "the Tories are corrupt", for example, obscures from genuine corruption of real people from being really punished in favour of all sorts of irrelevant nonsense.
One other thing which annoys me is the conflation of genuine racist bullying which seems to have happened here with things like Ollie Robinson's tweets as part of the same broad stories. Ollie's tweets are a load of nothing. Genuine racist bullying is serious and unacceptable. When that all gets lumped together then the whole endeavour is devalued.
The going after Rafiq is unfortunate. It just is not relevant to the story at all. But as soon as you do abstract this into abstract differences between groups, the fact that Rafiq has behaved poorly devalues his story - which is a whole load of nonsense.
Also I really agree with what JBP said about "racism". Until I meet someone who can actually define the term (i.e., never), I think it is best used in speechmarks. To suggest he put it in speechmarks as a dog whistle was moronic and bad faith by the panel. It is something I passionately believe that discussions of "racism" are often unhelpful. No one knows what racism is, all that pretty much everyone "knows" is that they aren't it. I've seen documentaries where Neo-Nazis deny being racist - that is how ill-defined the term is.
It astonishes me people think he's intelligent, tbh. Word salads don't equal intelligence. He's just a ****
