*Official* Yorkshire CCC racism crisis thread

I'm just going to say something to defend CricSim, or at least try and rationalise my own participation there.

Firstly, the Cribbtopia of CricSim was that you could say what you liked and you could get called out for it. Yep, there was overt, disgraceful racism on there, but firstly, that meant you knew the sort of people you were dealing with and secondly, you could call them out for it. I think this thread, and some of the comments from people like Teja and Shri have shown me that being able to respond isn't good enough - and the harm that can still be done by that - but personally I would rather know of an interlocutor's bigotry than set up an environment where people don't say what they really feel and they're just as racist, but you just don't know it.

Then let's just put that in the perspective of CricketWeb. There's much less overt racism, but let's not pretend that hasn't been present on here in the past. And on CricketWeb, if you respond in too bolshy a way then you [were] likely to be the person to get warned or infracted. It's a much more subtle form of racism we've seen on here because the overt stuff gets dealt with immediately. But that insidious, subtle stuff has been allowed to fester and, I suspect, caused as much harm as the bull**** on CricSim. I mean, I've basically been told not to worry my pretty little head about it when I've raised these issues in the past.

But I will apologise for my part in enabling an unsafe environment for people on CricSim - I can't pretend that I wasn't a significant part of the environment there. I honestly thought openness and the opportunity to openly debate with these bigots without prejudice was better, but the intervening years and some of the posting here tells me that wasn't the case.
I disagree with this line of thought in general, though you've obviously considered and acknowledged that what you thought may have been wrong.

Yes you could call people out and knew who you were dealing with. But realistically, what chance does a Teja, Shri, Cevno, myself etc have of doing so without simply being bullied by the same bunch of vocal idiots? You also have to realise that when CricSim was at its peak, a large chunk of us were quite young. When you're at that age all you want to do is fit in. I know I've made questionable posts in an attempt to do so as have many others. That sort of culture just bred more of the same.

Personally, CW had quite the opposite effect on me as a kid.

I'll admit though the difference in culture is more likely due to a demographic thing as opposed to how the forum was moderated.

You calling us a bunch of oldies, huh?

Mr. Glass
That Watson was allowed to fester for so long is definitely one of the more glaring misses by the mods, but by and large the moderation has been pretty good
Personally, I would have permanently banned people who were homophobic enough to wish death upon gay people but hey I am no mod

It shouldn't be though.

The texts are poor, but he has manned up and apologised without any reservations so we can move on from that.
It’s still going to give the ****wits an out though.

I’ve seen some people say stuff like “he’s only apologising because he got caught” and “what about Ollie Robinson”. It sucks but that’s the issue with being a whistleblower, you leave shunts an out if you aren’t 110% skinclean.

I get it, but overtly anti Semitic stuff gets dealt with harshly in the western world, at least it does in the US.

What's happening with the David Byas stuff. He said he wasn't Yorkshire coach at the time Rafiq was there. He said he left in January 2007 Is this true or is Byas mistaken, or is rafiq mistaken.? When was Rafiq first involved with Yorkshire..?

And why shouldn't it? What a strange thing to say. 'Overly' anti semitic? As if there is an acceptable amount that is ok

Pretty gross to watch all the usual suspects jumping all over this to claim that actually Yorkshire didn't do anything wrong
I've already seen opportunistic scum put it under the culture wars column and claim Rafeeq should be 'cancelled' like apparently YCCC has been. ****wits.
