Great innings from Dale Phillips - first round was a bust but now picking up from his good form last season.

Duffy dropped, injured, or winging his way to India?

Volts Insta post on Sunday named him in the 12

Interesting theory, considering someone posted Henry might be a late injury cover callup for India and yet he's playing for Canterbury today.

"Otago spearhead Jacob Duffy was named in the team but was not well enough to travel. Duffy has a viral illness but has returned a negative Covid-19 test."

Interesting announcement from ND cricket. Northern Districts Invitational to play 3 day game vs a CD XI. I assume this is a team of non-Waikato based players who will be available for Plunket Shield round 4 game starting 15th Nov. Strong batting but light on bowling experience. Notes below on new players based on NZ cricket info, please comment if you have more information or corrections.

Henry Cooper
Jeet Raval
Bharat Popli
Joe Carter
Colin de Grandhomme
Fergus Lellman (20, top order batter, 12 games for NZ U19s 2019/20)
Brett Hampton
Ben Pomare (21, wk, 10 games for NZ U19s 2019 - 2019/20)
Brett Randell
Matthew Fisher
Tim Pringle (19, SLA spin, 5 games for NZ U19 2019 - 2019/20)

12th? Peter Drysdale (32, experienced BOP top order batter, see article linked below)

I was going to suggest we count this for the FC draft but then I realised I made Cooper my 7th and put Kuggeleijn in my team, but he's not playing here. So I don't care now

Yes I'd wondered if Iman Singh might've been the all-rounder and spinner selected for Plunket R4 (repped Bay of Plenty as a schoolboy in 2016) but it's tough to deny Tim Pringle's all-round club form to begin the season. Five games for Otumoetai, 275 runs with a 137.5 average, 20 wickets with his left-arm spin, bowling average of just 4.7, economy rate of 2.

Sort of a slow burner, has that same Santner-ish "becomes very prominent white ball cricketer for ND after missing the NZ U19s" vibe to me.

May actually be 25 wickets (all formats) for 181 conceded. Looks like their leaderboard could've bundled in some T20 rounds and not others.

He did play for NZ U19s, but didn't make the U19WC squad.

IIRC, he is one of those unluckily aged guys when aligned to ICC cutoff. Either 1 month too old, or being up to 23 months younger than opponents and rivals for the team spot.

Noone asking the important questions, like how does he look with white zinc smeared across his nose and what's he like defending 2 runs off the final over of an ODI?

One can only hope the perfectly decent NZ U19 captain Jesse Taskoff doesn't become the Mattie Thomas of this saga, when all is said and done.
